Weekly Recap: Nintendo Switch Announced, Red Dead Redemption 2 Confirmed

It was a big week in gaming news. Here's a roundup of the big stories and others you may have missed.

THE BIG STUFF:

Nintendo finally announced its new console this week. Once codenamed NX, Nintendo revealed that the console is called Nintendo Switch, and as rumored, it's a console/mobile hybrid. You can play it at home in a docking station or take it on the go to play wherever you want. We still have a bunch of unanswered questions, though, and Nintendo has not said anything about price. Nintendo Switch comes out in March.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally official. After years of waiting and lots of rumors, Rockstar Games this week officially confirmed the western, slating it for a fall 2017 release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The first trailer has also been released--and it looks gorgeous.

What games sold the best in September 2016? Now we know, as the NPD Group this week announced the Top 10 best-selling games for the month in the US, including physical and digital in some cases. Without further ado....

THE OTHER STUFF:

Here's a cool new video in which Final Fantasy XV's voice actors discuss the process of lending their voices to the long-awaited RPG.

The professional gaming squad Team Dignitas announced this week that Jonathan Kemp, a video game industry veteran who worked on Tomb Raider, is joining the team as its new CEO. As announced previously, the NBA's Philadelphia Sixers own Team Dignitas.

Star Wars Rogue One's lead, Jyn Erso, will be played by three different actresses, according to Mads Mikkelsen, who plays her father in the movie. There will be a young Jyn, a teenage Jyn, and then an adult Jyn. The younger Jyns will show up in flashback sequences, presumably. Read the full GQ interview here.

Double Fine and iam8bit announced the fourth annual Day of the Devs event this week. It's a "festival that brings together the gaming community to celebrate the indie games that inspire and delight fans of all ages." Some of the games playable at the event this year include Knights and Bikes, Moblets, and Yooka Laylee. There will also be food trucks, art exhibits, and musical performances. The event takes place on Saturday, November 5 in San Francisco. Learn more about it here.

Here's something pretty cool. The live-action/CG movie Space Jam is coming back to theaters--but only for two days in November. Get all the details here at Cartoon Brew.

A Candy Crush TV show is on the way. CBS, which owns GameSpot, has announced it's working with Lionsgate and King/Activision to produce a game show based on the popular mobile game.

Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in development for a loonnnng time. What's the holdup? Designer Michel Ancel offered an explanation of sorts this week in a post on Instagram.

Here is a wicked cool vidoc for Halo Wars 2, covering the RTS game's new Blitz multiplayer mode and more. Not hyped for Halo Wars 2? Watching this video may change that.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn really wants a Nebula spinoff to happen. He talked about it recently on Twitter. Sound like a good idea?

Twitch streamer Rudeism is at it again. He's known for playing games with odd objects and that's exactly what he does in this new Overwatch video--he plays the game with a bow controller. Really. See the incredible video and get more details at Kotaku.

Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, a collectible card game based on the popular tower defense series, launched this week on iOS and Android. Here's the launch trailer:
