WB defends Batman: Arkham Origins season pass

Producer Guillaume Voghel contends that $20 offering features "a lot of value."

Batman: Arkham Origins producer Guillaume Voghel has spoken out to defend the game's recently announced season pass, after some fans spoke critically of it.

"The costume DLC is going to be available with the season pass and it's basically a bonus right?" Voghel told IGN. "There's going to be a lot of value in that season pass. One of the items we can't talk about yet…we'll just wait for the gamers to really see what the entire package contains. It's going to be a big deal."

The $20 Batman: Arkham Origins season pass features the Millenium and Infinite Earths skins packs (comprising twelve skins in all), as well as the Gotham by Gaslight and Brightest Day Batman skins.

The pass also features Arkham Origins Initiation, a new mode where gamers will play as Bruce Wayne before he became Batman in new challenge maps. Lastly, the season pass packs in an all-new story campaign that Warner Bros. is not talking about yet.

Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to the main storyline, launches on October 25 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are not in development.

In Batman: Arkham Origins, gamers will play as a "young, unrefined" Batman as he faces pivotal moments in his early career. Players will meet many important figures in the Batman universe for the first time in Arkham Origins.

The game also includes a series-first multiplayer mode (which will not be supported on the Wii U), developed by Brink studio Splash Damage.

CD Projekt is the only developer with common sense.

There's nothing WRONG with a season pass. It's just good business right?

I'll just wait for a GOTY edition to go on sale on Steam.  I might have paid $60 but I won't pay anymore than that.

I think I'll pass on the season pass. I like batman, not obsessed with it.

I don't see what there is to explain.  Season passes have made a lot of games a lot of money.  WB wants to make a lot of money.  Why not use a season pass to do so?  Is it  shady?  Yeah, but people will buy it and we'll forget we were ever outraged by Christmas.

Well this gamer IS going to WAIT and SEE what the WHOLE package has to bring. Last game had NOTHING of value unless you REALLY really REALLY liked the challenge maps and costumes. Hell, the fact Cat Woman was a DLC was still boggles the mind.

No thanks. These already completed games that get chopped up and repackaged to sell to us before the full game is even finalized is bullshit. DLC can be good, if done right. No hardly no one makes it feel like we really got anything out of it unless you just play a game like CoD like a religion and need your 15 map pack.

People like this keep trying to bait us and treat us like we're stupid because we play video games. Because we CHOOSE to spend our money on the occasional vanity DLC or map pack. But Season Passes are just complete scams to get extra money.

Sure, it's a clever way to work around the $60 standard, but we don't buy DLC because we're gullible. And I don't choose not to buy them because "I'm cheap" but I for one won't support Season Passes from people like THIS that suggest that's "a BONUS" and we should be HAPPY we even get that for 'free'.

I do know some people are gullible, or just have nothing better to do than just burn money or think they are doing the industry a "favor" by buying these Season Passes, but all you're doing is hurting yourself and gaming in general. Don't buy stuff on a "promise" or "investment". Make them EARN your money!

I could care less about the costume packs. The Bruce training missions sound cool but probably nothing special outside of a costume change... I do want what ever the bonus mission is though,..

If you all think that it is a waste of money then don't buy it. We all knew that they would release dlc yeah i guess they should of waited untill the game came out to  announce it. An they have been making this game for years do you honestly think that they can add this content into the game now. no they have been done for months so then they started to make this dlc they are not even saying anything about the campaign because its still in development. I was hoping that they would add another campaign just hope its longer then Harley Quinn's revenge. If you want to save money then wait for the GOTY i personally can not wait an already got the collectors edition an will probably be getting all the dlc i love all the other games an think this one will be even better.

Isn't planned DLC one of the things killing Capcom right now?

if this is alot of value then i guess when you release complete edition or goty edtion  or whatever will be even more alot of value than before !

Thanks but ill pass and wait that complete edition.

Whether or not the pass is worth the cash will depend on the player. I didn't hesitate to buy the Borderlands 2 Season Pass because I had been impressed with the original game's DLC and I have not regretted my decision.

But based on the DLC that came out for Arkham City (as well as what they've described above) I doubt I'll be buying this season pass. Challenge maps don't hold my interest and alternate skins just seem unnecessary (especially if you can only use them in challenge maps).

FartSlash
FartSlash

wait 6-8 months (maybe less since next gen is right around the corner which could bottom out demand) for a complete edition and pay less than half of the 80 bones that this would cost. That's what I'll be doing. Set you're clock back a year or so and gaming can be pretty cheap haha. Honestly, every news piece I've seen for this game has left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like this is going to be like Assassin's Creed or God of War at this point; a game with minimal tweaks here and there between releases but no substantial alterations to the core mechanics. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

So the answer to the age old question "How do you guarantee to turn people off a franchise that is essentially a licence to print money?" is add on a bunch of crap to the product nobody asked for and pretend your doing it to make the product better.

DLC doesn't make a game bad but the game isn't even out yet though I suppose it could be worst. WB could be selling the right to have an Arkham Origins movie released at the same time like a certain other publisher is doing.

I like all planned content also but I think this is not saying that. When we bought borderlands 2 and bought the season pass did we know what was going to come out, no. But we liked what did come. They have not advertised everything that will come out. So lets just see what does come out.

I really miss the good old days when games came out with ALL of the planned content on disc.

speedy5212

Yes it is a lot of value. But thats not what's annoying us. Its the practice of announcing and and preparing DLC before the game is even released. Where it is entirely possible to put it in the game by release date.

I'm getting pretty frustrated with the gaming community lately. What is there to complain about? It's a clear choice that you make that's been there for a long time now. If you want the game and all the extras that come out right when they come out, you pay extra. If you want everything for less, you have to wait for the GOTY, but you have to wait. It's a clear now-pay-more/later-pay-less balance that's been around forever now, and not just in video game economy. I don't understand what there is to get upset about.

As much as it pains me to say this but I'm just going to wait for GOTY and since WB had to say this by defending the Season Pass, I'm taking Origins off my list and as much as I want to play this, I got GTA V to hold me good anyways.

And this my friends is why people pirate games. Instead of paying for the game who SHOULD be complete you pirate the game so you're able to buy the stupid rip off dlc's.

WB is given a Jewel to work with. they are gonna milk it as much as possible for this is their only chance.

ExplicitMike

All you are doing is killing your own sales. A lot of people already stated they are gonna wait for the GOTY edition or when is used for dirt cheap. Don't be surprised if this game has terrible release numbers. DLC and season pass whoring is getting out of hand.

thekazumalord
thekazumalord

to me a season pass translates as "wait for the game of the year" edition.. i did that for Arkham City and it was well worth it.. i do wanna play Arkham Origins, but i don't wanna pay more on top of the $60 for the main game. it's not worth it. especially considering the DLC is all challenge maps and costumes.. all cool things, but not worth taking the price of the game from $60 to $80.. i'll likely either buy the game and not get the DLC or wait for the GOTY version that will inevitably come out.

Ratchet_Fan8
Ratchet_Fan8

@FartSlash exactly what i'm gonna do mate, i waited a year for Borderlands 2 GOTY and im getting soon. I expect AO to get their complete edition ASAP since they know it won't get much activity. That OR i'm going to buy the game used for 10 quid and get the DLC. **** no is greedy WB going to lock me out of some the games content and charge me extra.

Upat3am

@TheBlueDrew agreed if the Dlc bundle isn't worth it then your stuck paying a high price for stuff you don't want.

TheBlueDrew

P.S - Just a hint here guys, you don't get to talk morals if your reaction is to pirate the game. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Lucgrand

@samclockwise Actually they have, it's all detailed and you can click on the link in the article to the season pass minus the "story add on" but if it's anything like the harley quinn DLC from arkham city that lasted under an hour for me personally then this seasons pass still sucks

Lucgrand
Lucgrand

@ViciousRDS You know what fine let's give you the benefit of the doubt for a second, DLC is an age old practice deal with it. Here's the problem, companies such as BLIZZARD who i'm going to use as an example release add ons and expansions that actually are well worth the money and campaigns in and of themselves but when DLC such as Arkham City's DLC "Harley Quinn" lasts less then an hour to complete then it IS NOT worth the price. Like i said I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say fine DLC is ok but if i'm going to pay money don't give me content that i can beat in less time then it takes me to use the bathroom

TheBlueDrew
TheBlueDrew

@ViciousRDS Really? What is there to be upset about? Ok how about THE GAME ISN'T FUCKING OUT YET! YES, Extra content is good but not when we're barely a day beyond the release date. All anyone is asking for is some damn restraint from WB.

Wait one moment and then release the content. When I've finished the main game, collected everything and finished all the side missions then I'll be happy to see DLC but at this point it's just annoying. WB need to spend time showing off the actual game not showing the extra content.

Kayweg
Kayweg

@ViciousRDS I'm sure many people share your point of view. Personally i don't.

Just because something i consider bullshit "has been around forever" or is "common practice" doesn't make it any less bullshit....and i don't bend over just that easy.

This whole slicing up of content, in whichever shape and form, is designed to benefit one party and one party only.

Hint ! It's not you, the customer.

Adapttttttt

@ViciousRDS

They're not considered "extra" when they're already completed alongside what's supposed to be the "full" game. End of story.

EasyComeEasyGo

Honestly you sound like Lhomity who defending the Season Pass, DLC crap that has been the major cause this gen has had and last gen, we did not have this problem. Only a fool will buy Season Pass when we don't know if it's good or bad.

Sure I'll be fair, when they release GOTY that is and they can get there wives new tits for all I care.

erMonezza

@suplax Or just wait for a GOTY or complete edition, or whatever stupidly long name it's gonna have for half the price of the original release, but with all the DLCs and you buy it than.

@TheWatcher000 Yes, but the costumes are... like a ... bonus, right? And you pay for a real big deal, or something.

Definitely PR bull...

Estroncio
Estroncio

@ExplicitMike Exactly, it's really stupid for them to announce a DLC before the game even launches... If they have it done, why not put in as in game content?! They think they are being smart but i think they will actually lose money, everyone is gonna wait for the full game, or just won't get the damn season pass!!

Evanrocknuma
Evanrocknuma

@Frosty192 @T-Sub96 There are a few that still do.  Mortal Kombat came with a ton of unlockables even if there were a couple characters to buy.  We just need to remind other companies that we appreciate it.

ThePowerOfHAT
ThePowerOfHAT

@ExplicitMike @Estroncio As I said elsewhere already, it's a really bad sign when showing MORE of your game and your future plans for it makes people LESS interested in it.  The marketing and PR for Origins have been downright awful, in my opinion.
