Netflix has released the first trailer for its take on A Series of Unfortunate Events. The eight-episode series is set to premiere on the streaming service on January 13.

The trailer gives us our first look at Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf in motion. The overall tone and aesthetic of the series looks very similar to the 2004 movie of the same name. However, Harris's character seems a lot more grounded than the version played by Jim Carrey. There are still plenty of jokes, though. You can watch the trailer below.

The show's synopsis is as follows: "A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans--Violet, Klaus, and Sunny--whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents' mysterious deaths."

In addition to Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events stars Malina Weissman (Supergirl), Louis Hynes (Barbarians Rising), K. Todd Freeman (The Dark Knight), Aasif Mandvi (The Proposal), Joan Cusack (Toy Story 3), and Patrick Warburton (Family Guy). The series is executive produced by Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) and Daniel Handler, who wrote the Unfortunate Events books under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket.
