If you can't make it to this week's Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary party at San Diego Comic-Con (tickets are sold out), here's some good news: the event will be livestreamed. GameSpot will carry the stream, which runs from 6 PM - 10 PM PT this coming Friday, July 22. We will update this post with a video embed when the show draws nearer.

Sega is expected to formally announce a new Sonic game during the event, though there are no official details yet. Just recently, the Sonic Team confirmed a new Sonic game is in the works and will launch in 2017.

Also promised for the Sonic event are "special guests" and musical performances by Crush 40 and Hyper Potions. The event takes place at the San Diego House of Blues.

Sonic is already unquestionably famous in gaming, but Sega is looking further. The publisher recently discussed its ambitions to make Sonic an "entertainment icon." One part of this is through a Sonic movie, which will blend CG and live-action. The untitled film is scheduled to come out in 2018, and is produced by Sony Pictures. A second season of the Sonic Boom TV show is also reportedly on the way.

The next Sonic game is Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, which will arrive for Nintendo 3DS on September 27. The game was previously expected to come out in 2015 before it was delayed so the team could improve its quality.

Check back with GameSpot on Friday to get all the Sonic news.
