Watch Someone Complete Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes in Under Four Minutes

Speedrun is a reportedly a world record for an S-Rank playthrough.

In the lead-up to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes' release this year, there was no shortage of controversy over the game's length. Some reports said the game could be completed in under two hours. But a recently published speedrun blows that figure out of the water.

YouTube user Mimalmo has posted a video (via Kotaku) of the entire game being completed in under four minutes--3:54.870 to be exact. Though you can probably find a faster completion of the game, he writes on Reddit that this is a world record for an S-Rank playthrough.

It's a pretty impressive achievement to watch. Of course, he's not going through the side missions. And because Ground Zeroes is a nonlinear, sandbox-style game, finishing it once doesn't show you everything it has to offer. But it's still impressive nonetheless.

Ground Zeroes--a $20-$30 game depending on platform--is a prologue of sorts to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which has a playable world that is reportedly 200 times larger than that of its predecessor. Konami has not yet announced a release date for The Phantom Pain, but you can watch a 30-minute gameplay demo right now.

If you guys want the EVOLVE video, just YouTube it "Evolve Distillery". You'll find it. Nothing all that new. In fact, it was a very pre-canned video showcasing little more than chaotic FFA. It also shows that Turtle Rock drew the sand in the line, providing a beta only for XB1. This further drills home my stance that (a) I'm not paying ANYWHERE near $60 for a MP-only game. (b) If you like XB1 so much and like to show favoritism, I'll wait even longer before buying the game (circa $25USD), and (c) You messed up BIGTIME if you think you're going to vie for my time and attention by releasing a game 2 weeks before a TRUE masterpiece like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is being released. I've earmarked money that month for the Collector's Edition, which I'd gladly pay than putting money towards a company whose more interested in showing allegiances towards 1 community over the others. Best of luck.

I'm gonna rent my MGSGZ someday. If you beat out the game under 5 five minutes then the charge is free. However, it will cost you 1 dollars every minute you played after the first 5. I believe I will make enough money to even my cost of MGSGZ and to buy a MGSVTPP in my first customer. And I think I can easily pay for a new PS4 after my first day off.

3:57 = Pacman game session, lol

I don't know, I felt this game a little bit strange: you see a few soldiers around, just like there's just 5 or 6 of them. you eliminate them all and more just keeps on popping. once I could even see one of them simply materializing on the map. it would also be cool if you could see them talking to each other more often. I won't say the game looks like a demo because of it's size, but due to it's quality. still I have no regrets buying it.

Not sure why people are crying about it, its a prologue, very few prologues have been long.

I can't believe people are actually defending this game. I am gonna be waiting till the week before phantom pain comes out until I buy this (by then it will be about a fiver on ebay lol). then sell it again when im done with it. that way I waste no money on a glorified demo. destiny alpha even had more gameplay than this game lol.

a bit slow aren't we gamespot. plenty of people had completed this game in 4 minutes the week this game came out.

And to believe that people actually bought this, to play a demo? lol.

Wow he speedrun this in under 5 minutes. Must have been his first time playing the game. If he can do that I bet I could do it and explore everything else the game has to offer in 2 minutes on my first try. Definitely not worth $30 for a 3 minute demo!

stage4saiyan
stage4saiyan

People saying "omg they released it 4 $30 dorrar?!?", Morrowind has a speedrun time of 3 minutes and 41 seconds.

remind me again why this is worth £30 as a retail game it not be free as a demo?

@aegis_kleais You act as though Evolve is doing this just to get at the gamers. No... They're trying to get money. Just like Destiny, Outlast and others did when they released their games/betas out for Playstation WAY before they did Xbox. It's all for profits. They aren't just targeting one Gaming Community and trying to say they are better and that they don't care about the others. Xbox surely paid them more money to release on their console first, before releasing on Playstation. It happens all the time and it will continue happening. Playstation was doing it to ALL the big deal games, and now either they have ran out of money or stopped caring. Get over it. You'll still buy it and you know it.

The Release date was probably not planned well. Though, (Correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't really followed up on Witcher 3) I'm pretty sure Evolve had their release date planned first, and then Witcher came in and made their release date 2 weeks later. They're not just going to hold off on it because one game is being released, nor will they release it earlier and confuse everyone.

My main fact here is: GET OVER IT. They aren't targeting or challenging Witcher, NOR are they showing 'Favouritis' to Xbox. They are only trying to get money, and get their game out to everyone.

@Merseyak 30 minute demo for 30$. yeah......for those 30$ I rather have hooker for 30 minutes.

@DARKSPACE Slow mo wasn't something coined at the turn of the century. They just did it better.

Not to mention the REASON slow-motion (Bullet-time) was so cool in those properties is because it was tied to acrobatics and the like.

There's nothing wrong with having slow-motion in your game, it's not outdated, it will always be relevant in action genres.

cboye18
cboye18

@DARKSPACE I find slow motion/reflex mode along with cover-based shooting boring nowadays; the mechanics are so generic and they don't seem to change or vary that much.

@stage4saiyan  Except that Morrowind is a full retail game with other things to do. This is nothing more than a demo with little to do. Amazing how people like you defend this garbage.

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@stage4saiyan RIGHT!?

Open world games of this nature have sooooo much more to gameplay than just what you can do in a few minutes to get from Opening to Credits.

For F's sake, it's not a movie.

@Saidrex @Merseyak I borrowed it from the library and played it for 4 hours. While I enjoyed it and am really looking forward to Phantom Pain, I couldn't imagine paying money for what i played.

cboye18
cboye18

@PayneKiller @cboye18 You can't expect me to pay for something like this, do you? I would sue their @ss to kingdom come if this is what I bought for $30.

pound-u
pound-u

@VenkmanPHD @timmzy27  Umm, yeah, genius. That's the point. It's not the full game. It is a demo, and you are paying $30 for it.

jecomans

@xgalacticax Yeah, good call. That was a bigger game than this, and the first major GT to have online multiplayer, but it was indeed a prologue.

PayneKiller
PayneKiller

@DanielL5583 lol c'mon, it's sarcasm. I guess I'm good at it, or the complainers really sound this stupid every time so it's hard to tell if serious or not.

Anyway I saw you own this game, I'm bored with Watch Dogs and gonna sell it. I keep trying to play it as if it were MGS and it just isn't that fun to me. Thinking about buying this to play instead, just sorry I missed the PS+ E3 sale for $18

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@cboye18 @PayneKiller I'm pretty sure your idiocy is a much bigger threat to your health than this game, that is far more vast than this video shows.

Again... SPEEDRUN...

JFC... some people's kids...

pound-u
pound-u

@VenkmanPHD @cboye18 @PayneKiller  It doesn't matter if it's a speed run. This is still ridiculous. This is still a glorified demo that you paid for, and then there are ignorant people like you defending this crap.

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@pound-u @VenkmanPHD @cboye18 @PayneKiller No, what's ignorant is your thinking.

Yeah it's smaller than a full game, but it's also cheaper than a full game.

There's a ****ton more to do than in a demo of a game.

As far as me "defending" anything, the only thing I'm defending is using the brain inside your skull. Something a sad and disheartening amount of people on here like yourself seem to be either incapable of doing, or just flat out refuse to do so.

If your going to point out criticisms, have something to back them up other than empty aired convictions that have nothing to back them up.

You've never played it and you don't know what you're talking about. I've spent several hours on this title and have plenty more to do. It's well worth the £25 I paid.

Gelugon_baat

@jellyman68

What would you say to people who have played it and considered it to be a a sandbox game with its substance being mainly a collection of side activities then?

Perhaps you may be forgiving of the game, but for others who had expected that a Metal Gear game should have longer overarching plot, Ground Zeroes would not deliver on their expectations.
