Watch One of Destiny's Top Players Lay Waste to the Competition

And you thought you were good.

Destiny's beta may have only been open to players for a limited window, but it was enough time for some players to become downright experts. The video above documents the exploits of one such player, who, in a few short moments, will put to rest any notion you might have had about being good at Destiny.

The video showcases some of player LikeButta's best moments in the beta. Most impressive, I think, are the headshots that are pulled off in the video, as well as the lack of fusion rifles being used, which I found to be the beta's most effective weapons. LikeButta denies accusations of keyboard-and-mouse use (which would allow for more fine-tuned aiming), saying in the video's description that this was all done with a standard PlayStation 4 controller.

LikeButta is ranked as the top player in the beta, according to fan site DestinyTracker. The site's leaderboards tabulates the total score players earned in Destiny's competitive multiplayer mode, the Crucible. With a total score of more than 2.1 million, LikeButta's score far exceeds any other player tracked on its leaderboards, which includes players from both Xbox and PlayStation platforms.

This doesn't necessarily make LikeButta the game's best player, but it certainly makes him or her one of the most devoted, with 436 games played. And it's a feather in my cap that my kills- and score-per-game averages aren't terribly far behind LikeButta's.

The full version of Destiny releases on September 9. Two different special editions will be available alongside the standard game, although the most expensive version has proven to be limited enough that it's reselling for hundreds of dollars of eBay. If competitive multiplayer isn't your scene, you'll still have endgame content in the form of raids, though you'll need friends in order to tackle those due to a lack of matchmaking.

What was your highlight moment from the Destiny beta? (Here's my proudest moment.) Share yours in the comments below.

And I thought I was good... I'd hate to go up against this guy...

I'm worried that Destiny's multiplayer will be exactly like Halo. I am not very good at halo.

this guy is obviously using a mouse and keyboard

Everything look so Halo-ish.  Effects, movements, vehicles, weapons, environments, etc., everything!

I'm just curious what happened to the Pissy Master Race? Where are all the comments that you need a keyboard and mouse to play FPS games?

I felt a great disturbance in the Force… as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

It's a nice video. Love the music, especially the part where he clips some dancing.

I really don't get this game's appeal.

if I realised destiny was just a clone of halo I probably would of played the beta :O

There was a lot of twitch-y aiming, which looks like mouse/kbd rather than controller. Unless his controller's sensitivity if pushed through the roof. But then he wouldn't be able to fine-trace.

Unless it is the effect of fast-forwarding playback.

Another guy just picking off players that are trying to play the objective.  Boosting his K/D at the expense of the team because he will not play the objective.  I looked at this guy's stats and he had less objective captures than I did, but he played five times as much as I did.  Sad.

"LikeButta's score far exceeds any other player tracked on its leaderboards"

Guy below him has 2 Mil... and he played on X box give him another week and he would of beat him?

In other words he played a shitload.. If things kept going at the same rate #2 would of been #1 by numbers. I wonder if this article would of had him/her I like how 2nd place has 1,000 captures that means he's not afraid to get his hands dirty lol

As a big fan of Bungie, I can honestly tell you that Destiny had some of the worst MP I've ever played. Completely unbalanced and terrible matchmaking.

And the maps were far from great.

If I chose my best moments, sped up my montage and added epic music, Id seem much better than alot of you guys too. All truths aside, nice video.

Montages never really seem that impressive to me, you are just picking and choosing your best moments out of hundreds of hours. How many times did he embarassingly miss those vehicle snipes and just not show it. Would much rather see someone play a whole match, and show that it was consistent rather than just putting in all of the headshots you actually made.

Also of course it's a lot easier to camp somewhere picking off people who are actually going for the objectives and don't even see you half the time than go and capture them yourself. You could say he is defending the capture point but I think he doesn't care about the objective at all and is just going to the places he's going to get the easiest pick-offs.

This looks almost exactly like all the Halo kids that'd post their videos of constant head shots and grenade sticks.  And that was over 10 years ago...... Man, I feel old.

No I have no illusions about my gaming skills. I suck, but I am only in it to have fun, not get all amped and competitive.

The fact that he spent enough time in the beta to string together a 7+ minute montage, Jesus. I've seen worse, but they didn't document it. Impressive kills though, I'd never be able to do it.

To clarify, one thing about the game mode in the beta is that you get points for every kill not just how many zones you control such as COD's domination. In many cases you are helping your team out more by racking up the kills. You can be getting out capped the whole game and still win because you out killed them by a lot. I prefer it personally and that is the reason he doesn't have a ton of caps. http://destinytracker.com/destiny/player/ps/VaNsoM

The guy is clearly very, very good at what he does. Kudos for mastering Destiny's mechanics.

Paradoxically, he seems to prove game is pretty simple and thus might get boring quite quickly.

1. The game is very much horizontal. Players jump from time to time, but there is not a single example of how height advantage is utilized in game, say to throw a grenade from above or leverage lower bullet drop off.

2. Most weapon seems to have very high bullet velocity promoting players with high aiming skills that LikeButta clearly has. There are no examples of smart guessing player movements, utilizing sound awareness to make a timed shot.

3. Limited tactical reasoning. Again, no example of a situation in which a players has to find a smart way to approach another player with e.g. different aiming angle, flanking, distraction, speed.

4. No non-weapon skills? It seems the game is all about guns and occasional grenades?

I think I'll stick with Titanfall for the time being.

@dysonlu  i played the beta and i can say destiny is a mix of halo and borderlands, or something between... LOL but it is fun to play... especially with friends, maybe u should give it a try =)

@jv303  the appeal is the coop, not the PvP... the PvP is just like.... halo, but the coop campaign is very fun

it is not the best game EVER but i think is it very beatiful and fun to play with friends...

@AnimeFreaks actually BF4 had bullet drop with their sniper rifles, had to adjust for distance....doesn't exist in destiny

The worse part is the more zones your team is holding the more points you earn for each kill . . So now you've earned more Points for yourself awhile your team struggles to get caps you didn't even try to get?

@DVONvX Because being good at a game translates to being a socially inept recluse...lol  ...idiot...

Fitcherman

@vansomnia That works okay in public matches, but if he was playing against actual competition, that style of play would hurt the team.  He would no longer be able to slay the other team like a dominant player and he would not be helping the team capture zones, so he would be a liability.

@temporar He using that OP Shingen C he get no kudo from me, plus he halo jumping on a playstation. you guys need to step your game up running in a straight line do a z pattern or something good lord then running in the same area where your teammate was just killed so you can be killed next it shameful. greatness await you more like loser await you.

Raekwon20
Raekwon20

@jv303 Don't be jealous because all you got is a useless touch screen pad. while we get that lovely force feedback in the trigger I wish I could describe how wonderful it feel but I can't sorry.

Raekwon20
Raekwon20

Is that better loser good

OP = Over Powered

Shingen C is the name of one of the guns that was available during the beta that had 30 bullet in the clip, but you only needed half of the clip to get a kill. regardless if it Head shoot or body shoot. also it shot faster than the p90,  but has the power of a light machine gun.

I know you want to say well it all depend on the person shooting the gun. It doesn't because destiny does has assisted aim. That Why his cross hair are snapping onto his target.

p90 is a gun a sub machine as that.

Halo Jump a technique where you jump to dodge incoming bullets while also firing back. it was useful in halo because you could jump over your target turn around shoot your target in the back.

z Pattern is a technique where when you are being shoot at instead of running a straight line you run diagonal left and right which why it is called a z pattern

Greatness await you is Playstation slogan

step your game up mean you should get better so you will be a challenges, and not a pawn for someone else highlight wheel.

ricku1967
ricku1967

@Raekwon20 I played the alpha and the beta, and if it has aim assist, i didnt know it. was it it the settings or something?  when i played, it had zero aim assist.

Raekwon20
Raekwon20

@ricku1967 Man I was joking about people on PS4 sucking but, your really are making me think people on playstation really do suck. How can you not tell, did you ever wonder why is it that whenever your enemy appeared out of no where, when you aimed down the sights your aim is always on the target. You never have to find the target or when a enemy is run you can always perfectly match the enemy movement and not be affect by the gun recoil. You never have to time the shoots and set the cross hair and predicts the target movement. I understand you play on playstation so you are new to shooter watch some highlight from halo or gear of war and then watch battlefield you see the different.

ricku1967
ricku1967

@Raekwon20 @ricku1967 did i ever wonder why?? why would i? because when ever i aimed my weapon on a distant target it was never..not once, right on target with an enemy. i always had to manually move my gun onto the target to shoot it. I have played a ton of games that had aim assist and you could always tell the game had it. if a target was a little off from center of the screen, i would hit aim and the target was still a little off center of the screen, i would have to manually move the gun to the target to shoot it..if this game had aim assist, as soon as i aim my weapon, it would have automatically moved to my target. and it never did. i would have noticed that...a blind man would have noticed that. a person playing his first game ever would had noticed that.

Raekwon20
Raekwon20

@ricku1967 @Raekwon20 OK assisted aimed don't snap to target at a distance. it only snaps when the target is in your face or somewhere close to you (Shotgun range for example). Second, assisted aim starts assisting once the target and crosshair are close to one another then it start to track the target movements helping you perfectly match the target movement. you never noticed it because you don't know what assisted aim is and no there wasn't a option to turn assisted aim off.

ricku1967
ricku1967

@Raekwon20 @ricku1967 if it only helps at shotgun range or less, then no wonder i never saw any aim assist. i was playing the hunter. did most of my killing from a distance. at any rate, i think they should either get rid of it altogether or at least have an option to turn it off...it makes it too easy
