The opening cinematic for the Halo 5: Guardians campaign has been released. Posted on the official Xbox YouTube channel, the video features Spartan Locke and Fireteam Osiris on a mission to recover a valuable target. They encounter Covenant and Promethean forces on the way, resulting in some action-heavy combat sequences. You can watch the action-packed cinematic right now, embedded above.

Halo 5: Guardians will be released on October 27 exclusively for the Xbox One. The game's campaign mode sees the player always accompanied by three Spartans who can be issued commands or controlled by other players, the latter turning it into a co-operative experience. These characters will appear during cutscenes, and each one possesses their own distinct loadout.

Developer 343 Industries has confirmed that Halo 5 will launch with more than 20 multiplayer maps, and promised 15 more maps post-launch as free downloadable content packs before June 2016, although an Xbox Live Gold subscription will be required to access them.

The game will not include a split-screen mode. 343 Industries has described the removal of the feature as necessary to "deliver a true next-gen experience."
