The first trailer for Boston Marathon bombing movie Patriots Day has been released, showing off Mark Wahlberg as police sergeant Tommy Saunders during the terrorist attack in 2013.

The movie also stars Kevin Bacon as special agent Richard DesLauriers and John Goodman as police commissioner Ed Davis. J.K. Simmons plays sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese, while Michelle Monaghan portrays hospital nurse Carol Saunders. The film weaves together their stories involving the manhunt for the suspects and more.

Patriots Day is directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon). It sees a limited release on December 21, before expanding to more theaters on January 13, 2017.

It's called Patriots Day because the Boston Marathon bombings took place on the state holiday of Patriots' Day in April 2013, which is when the running event takes place every year.
