Watch Dogs sequel eBook picks up where the game ends

Authored by John Shirley, //n/Dark Clouds will continue Watch Dogs’ story in a techno-thriller novel.

//n/Dark Clouds, an eBook sequel to Watch Dogs, will release alongside the game on May 27, Ubisoft has announced.

Authored by John Shirley, the eBook picks up the story after the game’s ending. It’s a techno-thriller that follows Mick Wolfe, an an ex-military character who gets caught in Chicago’s hyper connected and violent underground. It will feature both new and known characters from Watch Dogs.

Shirley is a prolific author with over 30 books and short story collections to his name, which include some game, comic book, and movie novelizations. He’s also written several works in the cyberpunk genre, which is why he’s a good fit for Watch Dogs’ world. Ubisoft says that //n/Dark Clouds is the first novelization it conceived of in-house, and that Shirley had unprecedented access to the Montreal studio development team and writers.

the eBook will be available in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish in two digital formats: an upgraded version with interactive videos and images, and a classic eBook. You can find out more about //n/Dark Clouds on its official website.

Watch Dogs launches May 27 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. The Wii U version will launch this fall.

A sequel Novel eh? I take it Aiden Pierce won't be killing Minerva by the end of Watch Dogs.

In next week's news: the exclusive Samsung Galaxy S5.1, Aiden Pierce Edition with exclusive pseudo hack button.

SHUT DA FUCK UP! You haven't even released the game yet and you're shoving all these marketing hype bullshit down our throats. My god I remember at one point you guys got such hard-on for yourselves you were considering who to cast in a Watch Dogs movie. What the hell is wrong with you people?! All bark no bite. WEAK

We don't even know if the Watch Dogs story is good yet.

They should at least include it with the Digital Deluxe Pack or something though.

This gives a very bad feeling about the story (and the "ending") of the game....

What?????   Now DLC comes as a stupid book, I have to read the DLC????  Let me know when they adapt this book into another Watch Dogs game.

I definitely don't want this to become a trend.  If the next installment of Flappy Bird is a book I'm going to be pissed!!!

The way I see it Watch Dogs 2 will come out after this novel then. I see Ubisoft really planning these like AC series SIGH.

Yea, so now before you even play the game you can dress up like the main character and know how it ends....

Boy they thought of everything. Next week you can purchase the toaster the main character used before he became the hacker in the game. Woah dude, just Woah.

Really getting tired of this game. Advertisements everywhere and we don't even know if it's good or special.

Ubisoft has dissapointed me before with shallow and overhyped games, so lets see how this game will turn out.

Shit the sequel is already coming. So now you can read the book to find out how the first game ended and what will happen in the next game.

Is anybody else as sick of this game as I am? It's not even out yet - but I feel I've been reading about it for years (well... I have...). Urgh,

What if... what if it sucks?

i really feel this game has been delayed so much because it is trash and they want to fix it up as much as possible

Is that why Ubisoft gave journalists a free Nexus 7 in a fancy Paris preview a few days ago, so they could read the e-book?

Just release the game already!  I feel like I've been watching someone else playing it for a year now.

Cool and I'm sure GS will give Watch Dogs a 10/10 I bet.

This is getting very annoying.  Make games, put the story in them.  I shouldn't have to read badly written novels and half assed comics to know what's going on in the game that I want to play.

In some ways, this is worse than DLC.  Don't want to pay for extra maps and outfits?  Ok.  I don't.  But with this crap..... you have to read it or be confused (at least that was the case with some of the assassin's creed stuff).  That's worse, I think.

@spacecadet25

True. Why oh why Ubisoft you do this, the game not out yet. But you already want to release this pos DLC novel book. This really piss me off.

_Silent_Jay_
_Silent_Jay_

@spacecadet25 It's a book that takes place in the same world after the events of the game, dipshit, not a continuation of the game.

@Matchews  Their not forcing anyone to get the novel before the game.

@skipper847  Just because you don't like reading doesn't mean they shouldn't exist.  Dumbass.

@skipper847 If I wanted to read a book I wouldn't have bought my 50" inch tv. Books require an imagination, I lost that when I stopped playing with G.I. Joe's.

@xcollector

Yeah I'm sure Ubisoft already planning to release Watch Dogs 2 if Watch Dogs success that is. More $$$ for them.

@tom_cat_01  That's the danger of the hype train as too much can make the peeps flee. This was on my list to get buy now its a wait and see.

DamnILoveGames

@olddadgamer This is just a bit on the side and likely won't be required to understand the main story at all. Infact, if the game DOES end with a clear indication it will continue, that continuation will be carried over to a sequel game, not an ebook. They've stated that the book is focussed around a completely different character, so I'd assume we'll get everything we need from Aiden Pearce's story in the game.

spacecadet25
spacecadet25

@_Silent_Jay_ @spacecadet25  Uhhhh, how is a book that takes place chronologically after the game, and is in the same world and has many of the same characters of the game, all that much different from the concept of most DLC's?   Same sort of story and intent, but different medium, is that connection confusing you?

Call me names, but for one you can't recognize clear sarcasm (did you read my whole post), and two you don't see the similarity between story told in traditional DLC content and what kind of story this book intends to tell.  I won't call you any names though, your own post speaks for itself.

Matchews

@anarky23

Thank you captain obvious. The world is now a safer place.

I was being sarcastic... the world really isn't a safer place.
They've gone from creating hype about a game to just being ridiculous. Now all we can do is just make fun of all this pre release hype being, well, too earlier. It's like, hey son I just bought you a new car. I know your not born yet, but you're gonna love it....

@EvoAnubis @skipper847

Yeah, I know that but this novel will make me hate to finish playing Watch Dogs game. Because I already know the ending not finish yet. *facepalm*

Matchews
Matchews

@anarky23 @MatchewsReally, you were saying? I don't believe you, I think you're making it all up. In fact, I bet this isn't even a book at all!!!! It's a conspiracy.

anarky23
anarky23

@Matchews  Also isn't the novel is just a story that takes place in the same universe not a sequel.

P.S. don't have to be a jerk about it, I was just saying.

@bradaz85 @pongley@olddadgamerNot being presumptuous at all, it says it in the article.

pongley

@bradaz85 @pongley@olddadgamer To what? He's complaining that a self contained story is being written to follow another self contained story with a different protagonist (you know, kinda like a sequel). It doesn't take anything away from the game.
