Warriors digging XBLA
Paramount Digital Entertainment revives Walter Hill's cult-classic gangster beat-'em-up for Microsoft's online store this summer.
In 2005, Rockstar's Toronto studio revived Walter Hill's cult classic 1979 film The Warriors for a PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PSP brawler of the same name. The games proved to be a fine tribute to Hill's film, which followed a ragamuffin band of gangsters fighting for their lives against rival posses in the streets of New York City.
With the 30th anniversary of the film rolling around this year, Paramount Digital Entertainment is coming out to play with its own rendition of the classic film. As reported by MTV, The Warriors is being prepped for release exclusively on Xbox Live later this year. XBLA veteran CTXM has been tasked with developing the downloadable game, having previously created Heavy Weapon, Feeding Frenzy, and Astropop for Microsoft's online platform.
Other than that it's a Final Fight-style classic beat-'em-up, details on the game remain light. Screenshots released alongside the announcement show players fighting through city streets and in underground subway cars. The game also appears to accommodate multiplayer cooperative play.
The Warriors is currently slated for a midsummer release on XBLA. No price or rating has yet been announced.
