It's been almost a dozen years since Warhawk was released for the original PlayStation, and now the fondly remembered flight combat game is finally going to become a proper franchise. Amidst the BlizzCon and QuakeCon hubub on Friday, Dylan Jobe of developer Incognito announced on the PlayStation blog that Warhawk for the PlayStation 3 has gone gold and will be available for purchase August 28.

The game will be available on a Blu-ray Disc in stores for $59.99, or downloadable through the PlayStation Network for $39.99. To justify the extra $20, the retail game will include extra video content, a manual, and a Jabra Bluetooth headset.

"I'm really glad that SCEA came through with a 'good value' price for this," Jobe said of the downloadable version of the game. "It's the right thing to do."
