MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will be free-to-play for the rest of its days, Mythic announced in an update on its website this weekend.

"Effective immediately, we will be turning off the ability to apply one-month subscriptions and game time codes to Warhammer Online accounts and removing the ability to open new Warhammer Online accounts," the developer said.

Any player who has or had an account in good standing from October 31 will be able to play Warhammer Online for free until the game officially shuts down on December 18.

Though the game is shutting down, Mythic will continue to add new NPCs to the game to help players power up their characters. Other "unique experiences" will also be added to the game over the course of the next few weeks.

"So please join us and help say goodbye to Warhammer Online in one last big WAAAGH!," the developer said.

In September, Mythic announced that after five years of operation, Warhammer Online would shut down due to its contract with IP owner Games Workshop coming to an end.

Warhammer Online may be closing down, but multiple new Warhammer titles are in development.

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and is the third new Warhammer game to be announced since March, following a new smartphone and tablet game from the studio behind Family Guy Online, the turn-based strategy game from Slitherine, and multiple titles from Creative Assembly.
