Warhammer: Battle Marches to Xbox 360, PC

Expansion to Namco Bandai's tactical RTS Mark of Chaos to include original game on Microsoft's console in addition to new content added to PC version.

by

Games Workshop's fantasy Warhammer and futuristic Warhammer 40,000 licenses have received a lot of play in the last few years. Aside from the many projects in production, which include two distinct massively multiplayer online games and a game for the PlayStation Portable and DS, the universe has received regular updates from THQ's futuristic Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War real-time strategy series.

In late 2006, Namco Bandai released Warhammer: Battle for Atluma on the PSP and Warhammer: Mark of Chaos on the PC, breaking the more than eight-year drought in the violently bloody fantasy portion of the universe.

Returning to the series it resurrected, Namco Bandai today announced the first expansion for Warhammer: Mark of Chaos. Titled Warhammer: Battle March, the next installment in the tactical strategy game updates Mark of Chaos with a new single-player campaign that features two new factions: Dark Elves and Orcs & Goblins. All of the existing factions will also receive new units, and new online modes will also be added to the mix.

Whereas the first Mark of Chaos was available exclusively for the PC, Warhammer: Battle March will also be joining the Xbox 360's growing lineup of real-time strategy games. But an expansion without the original game isn't much good, so Battle March on the Xbox 360 will include the original Mark of Chaos in its entirety, as well as all of the new content being added in the PC expansion.

Players will be able to play through single-player campaigns featuring each of the six different factions, and as is a hallmark of the Warhammer universe, Battle March will include extensive unit-customization options. The Xbox 360 game also includes online multiplayer battling for up to four players over Xbox Live in head-to-head and team-based modes.

Warhammer: Battle March will be available for the PC and Xbox 360 in 2008.

I'm deployed to iraq right now and picked up a copy of the game at the bazzar. If you enjoyed the first one you will like this one. Only thing I didnt really see was any new units for the other armys. I still need to replay through the empire and chaos campaign to see if they and anything.

So for a price just above what Pc owners are going to pay for the expansion, 360 owners will get the game and the expansion. You better look to making the PC expansion free or under $10 or I am not going to be happy as a PC gamer that supported the title when it originally came out and made it the success it is! :(

theres seriously no need for a keyboard and mouse for RTS games- the only reason you need one anyway is because they tend to overcomplicate themselves. C&C3 and even LOTR:BFME2 worked surprisingly well on the 360, but long before that Warcraft 2 and even C&C worked surprisingly well on the PS1 and Saturn as well. With a bit of effort put in to the controls, you can actually find that the games are just as easy to play as with the keyboard... As for Warhammer, I love the tabletop game and the WH40k: Dawn of War. I skipped Mark of Chaos after playing some unimpressive demo's that ran really poorly on my system. If I can get the game for the 360, where I know it'll run perfectly, then its a no-brainer for me.

hopefully its more like warhammer 40,000, dawn of war games than warhammer mark of chaos, that game spoilt the series

Namco killed Warhammer RTS the 360 game and the expansion will either be a joke or an underdog!

Warhammer is way cool, but I heard MOC wasn't as good as 40,000. Maybe the expansion can pick up some of the slack.

i was a big starcraft rts jockey on pc, and when c&c3 came out on the 360 i actually picked it up and made the switch over (mainly because i grew tired of upgrading my video card and pc every 6 months to keep up with the fps genres) anyway long story short and case in point, c&c3 DOES work great on console, and whoever says its too complicated, just isn't smart enough or hasn't put any time at all into learning the buttons. you can figure out how to do everything that you can do with a kb/mouse in just under an hour, it's not that difficult. so, cheers for more rts games on the 360.

hmm MS seems pretty serious about making RTSs popular on consoles...hopefully theyll come out with a kb/m peripheral

I haven't play any online multy player game yet..but to be honest with you i have read and watched so many good games that could be played in this mode. That encourage me a lot and i think that is a very good way to meet people and make new friends.

Why are all you noobs saying "40k is better", dudes, GUNS SUCK! They are cheating in battle, it shouldn't even be classed as fighting. Plus! Without the Original WarHammer, 40k wouldn't even exist, so be greatfull! And WarHammer was founded in my hometown!!! Woop xD

Ladies men like you just have no time on your hands... Now thats out of my system. MOC was crapola, this will simply add some more crap to the pile. Let me know when DOW2 is being made...

It actually did have a skirmish mode, adelaidebread.. you just had to find it under multiplayer/LAN and add a bot :P

The original was a bit rubbish. From what I can remember, it didn't even have a single player skirmish mode, pretty sure thats why I uninstalled it in disgust, but I might be wrong. Would look forward to it being improved though, the universe has gaming potential coming out its..well..you know.

If you don't know what Warhammer is, you should most definitely read up on it. Both franchises have a deep history and lore, and I prefer 40k, myself. Mark of Chaos was more like Medieval: Total War. Dawn of War was like Command & Conquer 3. A bad comparison, because I think that Dawn of War is way cooler. Also one thing: We need MORE! It will only be a matter of time before the Warhammer franchises being mentioned is as common as Starcraft.

"Everyone knows 40k is better than original Warhammer." Most people don't even know what warhammer stands for. A lot of the 40k games aren't even warhammer. It's merely warhammer in name only.

i really wish we get a constant stream of warhammer games. this is very good news indeed that we will get to play more warhammer fantasy but warhammer 40k seems to have halted production. i really wish they'd continue on and on and on.. unless they'll be revamping the whole graphix and physix engine then perhaps they can take their time =P

great two games for the price of one, even though I already have mark of chaos for my pc

The Xbox was known as a "FPS console" to some...I wonder if the 360 is on its way to becoming a "RTS console"? I think it will earn that title if it gets Starcraft 2. -=x
