After tooling around this still-in-development title from MGM Interactive, here's what we saw. The game looks like a 3D Command and Conquer but plays like Return Fire. It's really an interesting mix of a strategy game and action game that we haven't seen before. WarGames: Defcon 1 is planned to be released for the PlayStation and PC this second quarter.

WarGames is based on the 1983 film of the same name staring Mathew Broderick. The story of the game picks up 20 years after David Lightman (Broderick's character) hacked his way into the military computer and nearly caused World War III. This time around he's working for the government - trying to stop it from happening all over again.

Players can choose to control NORAD's army (the good guys), which is composed of conventional forces such as tanks, jeeps, and helicopters, or the WOPR's futuristic forces (the bad guys), which have giant mechs and hoverjets.

Players have missions on either side that they must complete, and to help make those missions as exciting as possible MGM Interactive has enlisted the help of the feature film director who originally directed the Wargames movie, John Badham.
