Warframe hits open beta with new update

Digital Extremes "soft-launches" public beta phase for shooter; update 7.0 introduces two new warframes and a snow level.

Digital Extremes has "soft launched" its third-person shooter Warframe into open beta, complete with a massive update.

The new patch for the shooter features new weapons and new warframes for combat.

The patch, called Update 7.0, has brought in new warframes for players to try out: the saryn and banshee. The former has corrosive attacks that dissolve both organic and synthetic material, while the latter has sonic-powered offensive and support capabilities.

The update also introduces a new snow-themed stage called the Corpus Outpost that features an open-ended environment. New weapons in the update include the Paris hunting bow, the Viper full-auto light pistol, and the Fang daggers. Players can also try out a new mission type called endless defense where players have to defeat waves of enemies and survive as long as possible for big rewards.

Concerning balances, the mod system now does not allow the same mods to be stackable onto the same weapon. Existing warframe powers and weapons have been fixed. For more information, check out the full list of changes on the official forums.

the gameplay is fun.. the weapon selection is a little low and it's annoying that you can only get blueprints for a select few of them using in-game currency.. as long as they keep adding levels and scenarios, it'll continue being fun.. they also need to dial back the difficulty for solo play considering they only give you 4 respawns per day..

I played it this morning for about an hour and had a good time with it. I was pleasantly surprised to see it offered some stealth mechanics such as backstab bonuses. I'd like to see them develop it more.

So many games, yet they all look the same and it's starting to get really boring now :(

If anyone wondered what happened to the original concept of Dark Sector, it's this. Digital Extremes was forced to make a more "modern-warfare-ized" version for retail, but they still wanted to follow their sci-fi dream.

This game isn't pay-to-win in the slightest, and it's actually really fun. Glitchy, yes, but it's a beta, and the developer team is actually very prompt in fixing any issues and they stay very connected with the people on the forums, personally addressing even smaller issues. Proud to say I was a part of the Closed Beta.

Anyone else think this looks just like Mass Effect 3s Multiplayer?

I'm sorry so there is no PvP in this game b/c I hardly see the point of a micro-transactions solo/co-op game.  I was thinking the game was cool but I got 5 minutes into the video and they never mentioned PvP so I stopped watching.  I mean the game looks cool but I wouldn't play this w/o PvP and i wouldn't ever play a micr transaction driven game of this nature, honestly that doesn't even make sense to me.

I love the warframe armor design, very deadly, futuristic and organic all at the same time. Multiplayer isn't my thing, but it does look pretty.

Played maybe over 3 hours. At the beginning looks good promising but after one hour it becomes  repetitive and boring game.

Had a blast playing this game so far in closed beta.  Cooperative sci-fi shooter with space ninjas from the guys who made Dark Sector.  So far, a great freemium experience, you can unlock everything with salvage/loot drops or just buy new character classes and weapons.  I unlocked my second class and about six weapons playing F2P in beta just by playing for fun.

@yoda101280 Having been a part of the closed beta, I might be able to shine some light on the microtransactions being in this game.

It's not pay-to-win in the slightest. The items they offer you can acquire quite fairly through playing the game, or by purchasing blueprints and crafting them with the in-game currency, which is quite easy to obtain.

Warframe isn't pay-to-win, it's more of a pay-for-convenience model. Give the game a try. It's fun.

@feared4power @bodaman GoW looks better/moves smoother has better AI than ME3. I'm saying this game with the zombie AI and wierd spazzy movements looks like ME3. TBut they all look alike as 3rd person shooters
