Warcraft movie set for release Dec. 18, 2015

Blizzard Entertainment confirms release date for upcoming movie from Legendary Pictures.

by

The World of Warcraft movie will be released in theaters on December 18, 2015, Blizzard Entertainment announced today.

The film is being directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and could feature In Bruges actor Colin Farrell and There Will Be Blood's Paul Dano in lead roles.

The film's plot remains largely under wraps, though a past report suggests the movie will feature "time travel and alien worlds."

Production on the film will begin in January. Blood Diamond and K-PAX writer Charles Leavitt authored the most recent version of the World of Warcraft film's script.

Please, <deity-here>, let it be done with CGI.

Oh I just want a Warcraft 4... I'm tired of playing Warcraft with other people, let me build a base and crush the opposition!

Time travel? Yeah this movie is gonna look amazing but we all know it's going to be a disaster

What's with the unwarranted Diablo love? Yes, D1 and 2  had a good story but it was nothing special. Diablo 3 was terrible all around. There is no appeal whatsoever to a Diablo movie and it's a very tired fantasy trope that's been done ad nauseam.

I'm far more interested in a Warcraft webisode series by Machinima or a tv  series.

I think it's going to "flop" domestically here in the U.S. but it will do well worldwide.  It's either going to be overly-ambitious, or just straight up cheesy.  Stay tuned haha.

They should introduce "Best Movie that was Never Released" as an Academy Award category. I'd be tough competition between this one and Assassin's Creed.

Illidan Stormrage: "You are not prepared... for this movie!!!"

Me: "You know what... you may be right."

Well, they sure have enough time to not screw it up. Still gotta be somewhat skeptical though.

has anyone read Christie Golden's Rise of the Horde? its like an origins story about the relationship between orcs and draenei. its a really good book, Christie Golden is a phenomenal writer. shes good at giving you visuals. i remember reading it and just imagining the entire story unfolding in my brain.

:D

They say that till it gets a complete re-write and the budget goes way over. I bet a few delays so don't count on that date.

If this is some kind of warcraft origin story, it could work as a 2-2.5 hour film.

By alien world they probably mean Outland, where the orcs came from, so yes orcs are the aliens in Azeroth. Having that in mind this movie will base on beginning of the lore, and i hope it will have sequels.

Still pesmistic about this

Time travel and alien worlds? What? Don't tell me Colin Farrell will be a scientist with a side-kick (Paul Dano) and they will build a time travelling machine which will take them to Azeroth and the whole plot will be centered around them trying to get back to Earth. Please, WoW was too much already.

Warcraft was cool but World of Warcraft was retarded. I have no idea why this needs to be made into a movie

They could have a HUGE movie series like James Bond. Just try not to ruin it by putting Warcraft all in one movie.  Focus on the depth of Warcraft.

Too bad they will see this as a easy way to make money and mess it up.

With Lords of the rings they did a good job but cut so much out.... Then it hit them they could split the movie up and make more movies.  BUT it was too late.  So with the last movie from the first book they added to the book to get 2 movies out of the smallest book, INSTEAD they should have started out with splitting up the second, third and forth books in the series so they could cover all that occurred in the books.

I doubt it'll be good but well...

@vadagar1 You realize that's 55% of Warcraft lore, is childish crap.

@Acerv12340 I wish Lord of the Clans remained a point & click adventure.. It was a good book though...

@Nexrad maybe coz rich story, characters and lore? and it's warcraft movie not wow

@Zatto-1 DIablo don't fit much for cgi but it has Quite awesome story and lore as for Starcraft that's perfect fit for multiple cgi sequels :)

Ravenlore_basic
Ravenlore_basic

@Zatto-1 Me too. Why do all movie have to be live action? I mean most of it is live action with a HUGE chunk of it CGI.

I think we are at a point where a FULL CGI movie could be just as good if not better than Live action.

krystyla
krystyla

@dotanpelled doesnt filming usually take only a few months at most?

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@krystyla Uh mostly because the Hobbit is actually worth watching and splitting into three movies. Fuck off.

Ravenlore_basic
Ravenlore_basic

@krystyla LOL yea just mention that.  They should have split the first 3 movies up to cover the book in its entirety.

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@inspectercoley Will never happen. WoW has too irreversibly fucked up the storyline to even continue the franchise afterwards.

BelaidKL
BelaidKL

@krystyla It's been, unfortunately, pushed back to 2016 :( We get 'The Good Dinosaur' from Pixar instead in 2015

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@dotanpelled @krystyla Not really, at all. Principal photography rarely takes more than a few weeks. The overwhelming chunk of work done on movies and shows takes place before and after actual filming, that's the part that takes months.

Ravenlore_basic
Ravenlore_basic

@krystyla It depends true shooting is on tight schedule but some movies have a pause in shooting. and if there are different locations it adds to the time.  But actual shooting of any location still is on tight schedule.

JamesHetfield89
JamesHetfield89

@dotanpelled @krystyla That's a completely made up number. Principle photography does not usually take 2-2.5 years. Actors would age and look different throughout the film...Principle photography is usually completed over the course of a few months, with exceptions of course. Particularly if there are problems.

krystyla
krystyla

@dotanpelled @krystyla no produced, the rest is editing post production pre production, cgi, actual filming is on a tight schedule
