Warcraft movie cast revealed, Colin Farrell not listed

Who's going to play an Orc and who'll be Human?

The Blizzard Warcraft movie comes yet another step closer to reality: six members of the film's cast were announced today.

Although no specific roles were listed, Slashfilm revealed the following actors and actresses will star in the film:

  • Ben Foster -- The Messenger, 3:10 To Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand
  • Travis Fimmel -- Vikings the television series
  • Paula Patton -- Baggage Claim, 2 Guns, Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol, Precious, Hitch
  • Toby Kebbell -- The Councilor, The East, Wrath of the Titans, War Horse, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
  • Rob Kazinsky -- Pacific Rim, Red Tails, HBO’s True Blood
  • Dominic Cooper -- Captain America movies, Dead Man Down, My Week with Marilyn, An Education, Mamma Mia!

Despite previous rumors that Colin Farrell had been offered a lead role in Warcraft, he is not mentioned in the film's press release.

Production is set to begin in January 2014, and as reported earlier, the release date is currently March 11, 2016. Other details we already know about the upcoming movie:

  • Duncan Jones (Moon) is the director, and he's played every Blizzard game.
  • It will be a mix of live action and CG focusing on a Humans vs. Orcs origin story.
  • Industrial Light and Magic (the visual effects studio behind Star Wars) will be creating the Orcs.
  • Durotan and Lothar will go head-to-head in the movie's story.

I think Ben Foster would be great as an gnome rogue type.   Paula Patton, will most likely be an Night Elf, she as elfic features and she's damn fine.  Travis Fimmel, would be awesome as a warrior or shaman type class, i really enjoy is portrayal of Ragnar in Vikings. For the rest of the cast, they seam pretty useless in this type of production, i guess we will have to wait and see.

Man i'm excited to see what the HELL this is going to be like. I literally have no idea, i mean DC says he wants to outdo Lord of the Rings, which is fine and all, but World of Warcraft seems a bit more difficult to tackle since the universe already has an established look. I guess they can just do whatever they want, but if i know WoW gamers right, they don't like 'change'.

Are Blizzard still flogging this horse?  These actors don't exactly scream quality and this film is turning out to have a longer deveolpment time that DNF.  Would like to see how much money they have poured into this project so far.

Blizzards CGI skills are amazing (even if their game quality has dipped since merging with Activision).  They should cut this crap and make a CGI film or a series of 30 minutes episodes.  Keep as much in-house as possible.  They may limit the audience to die-hard Wow/Blizzard/Warcraft fans but making a crappy live-action film won't exactly appeal to everybody, fans or not.

Plus game to film adaptations have never raked in any big profits.  Which begs the question why are they so determined to make this film?

They are doing the Warcraft 1 story essentially? Now THAT is intriguing. I was excited that they were doing an original story but at the same time the original story is hardly fleshed out. I'm really excited for this now. And Durotan and Lothar will be in it? Hm. I'm extremely excited but at the same time guarded. I'm crossing my fingers.

Colin Farrell hasn't been relevant since the early 2000s, along with those earrings he wears. Paula Patton though..she is fit as hell.

In this movie none of the heroes will die.. because they'll just respawn.

I'm going to buy this film and put it right next to the other classics, like Dragon Ball Z and Far Cry.

I hope it plays out in some fashion like the Warcraft II cut-scenes.

The movie opens with two virgins hunched over their beige desktop computers. They push some buttons on their keyboards and then go to bed, having accomplished nothing with their useless lives. The end.

I can definitely see Paula Patton playing Garona, and I think she'd do a fine job of it. Wouldn't surprise me at all if that guy on the left played a young Khadgar and the whole movie was about the First War and the opening of the Dark Portal.

I'm not watching unless Mr. T is in it.

I like Colin Farrell, but I'm not sure he'd fit with this particular movie. Ben Foster is good as well as Dominic Cooper. I'd like to see Paula Patton as a Night Elf, hehe.

Would have been cooler if they did open castings like star wars did.

Am I supposed to care about Colin Farrell not being in it?

I'd love to believe it will be good and frankly it might be but I have no doubt it will try to heavily pander to people who have no idea about the game's lore, leading to a horrible amount of the movie being pure exposition.

There is some hope seeing as the director is reported to of played all the Warcraft games but that's still not really that reassuring. The setting seems alright, I personally haven't played the first two Warcraft's to any good extent meaning for me it could be a nice new bit of lore or for others a nostalgia trip.

What I will say is that, being somebody who got into Warcraft from the 3rd game and starting World of Warcraft in Wrath of the Lich King, I would love maybe a couple movies chronicling Arthas Menethil's life and death, his story could rather easily translate to a movie format and I think he'd be a relatable character even for those who haven't played the games and due to the nature of his story it would give said people a good ground work of lore for World of Warcraft, at least right up until Cataclysm, but that was so naffly written (super, some-how now OP Death Wing, just as powerful as any other aspect prior to Cata, but opps, guess the other aspects are taking a day or two off?) that I'd much rather they stopped the movies at the end of WotLK.

That's what I'd prefer but I suppose Arthas has had a grand amount of Lime-Light in both W3 and WotLK and there are certainly other entertaining and well written characters/story's for the WoW Lore to tell.

@f22_king_raptor I know about most of them, but I'm a movie freak. I can't say that any of them are bad actors, so this is encouraging, but they still have to (War)craft a movie. There are countless examples of good actors being in bad movies and not being able to make the movie any better.

@f22_king_raptor I don't know who 3/4 of famous people are nowadays. Everytime I read the celebrity birthday section in the paper I have barely heard of any of them.

Dominic Cooper was great in The Devil's Double.  His version of Uday Hussein is hilarious and entertaining.  Never thought I'd type anything like that.  Without him the movie would've been a turd.
