Interactive Magic Online's massively multiplayer flight simulation, Warbirds, has garnered plenty of pilots and devotees; as per tradition for this type of game many squadrons or social groups have been formed since the game's inception, mainly for camaraderie, mutual support, friendship, and team effort more than anything else.

Of course there will be competition, after all, what is air combat other than seeing who is the better pilot? Among squadrons, rivalry is typically friendly but can get pretty fierce - a perfect environment for the 1998 Warbirds Squadron Tournament. A grand total of 32 squadrons signed up, with names ranging from the 901st Immortals to VMF-214, the Dweebs of Death, Hell's Aces, and JG 53.

The objective of each duel in the Tournament is to disable the opposing squadron's airfield or eliminate every member of the opposing squadron twice (each member has two lives). Each squadron must have a minimum of eight pilots and a maximum of 16.

Last Saturday the first round finished up, taking a week to fully complete, with the first 16 squadrons battling. Here are the brackets and results, with the winners proceeded by asterisks (*).
