Wanda and the Colossus a TGS no-show

The new game from they-of-Ico-fame not playable at TGS; mini-theater on show floor puts trailer on display instead.

TOKYO--Wanda and the Colossus, the long-awaited game from the team behind the critics' darling, Ico, appeared only in limited form on the floor of the Tokyo Game Show.

After Wanda's recent unveiling, hopes ran high that Sony would offer a playable snippet of the title at TGS. It did not; however, Sony does have a small theater on the show floor that displays the trailer every few minutes.

Impressions of the trailer reveal the following: The team has done well at creating an entirely new game rather than a sequel to Ico (which wrapped up nicely at its end, and therefore didn't exactly demand a follow-up). The trailer makes it clear that this game does make use of Ico's striking and unique visual style in its landscapes and character development, and it also displays a very subtle use of color. The game's storyline involves a young boy's attempts to restore the essence of a girl named Wanda by attacking giant, lumbering creatures.

If you haven't seen the movie, you can watch it on GameSpot. Additional information on the title is available on the game's Japanese site.
