Vivendi Games sales up sharply
World of Warcraft helps inflate international entertainment company's gaming-division revenues nearly 69 percent.
International media corporation Vivendi issued its financial report for the first half of the year today, and the France-based company's results show that its overall sales growth is being drastically outpaced by its gaming division.
The entire company showed revenue growth of a little more than 6 percent for the first half of 2007. On the other hand, Vivendi Games racked up 500 million euros ($685.8 million) in revenue, nearly 69 percent more than it managed over the same time frame last year.
Predictably enough, the company attributed the growth to continuing momentum behind World of Warcraft. The company released the game's first expansion, The Burning Crusade, earlier this year, and recently announced that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game had surpassed 9 million subscribers worldwide.
Despite the growth in revenue, Vivendi Games is still the smallest of Vivendi's five major subsidiaries, which include Universal Music Group, Canal+ Group, and the telecommunications companies SFR and Maroc Telecom.
