Vivendi Games buys Assault Heroes dev

Chilean studio Wanako Games becomes latest addition to publisher's Sierra Online division.

Vivendi Games' Sierra Online division is looking to cement its reputation as a publisher of downloadable console games, and the company today announced another move in that direction. The publisher confirmed that it has acquired Wanako Games, the Chilean developer of the Xbox Live Arcade game Assault Heroes.

Calling Wanako the largest developer in Latin America, Vivendi said it will retain the studio's staff and publish several of the team's original game concepts. Esteban Sosnik, the studio's founder and former CEO, will become head of Sierra Online Latin America, with development manager and creative director Tiburcio de la Cárcova managing Wanako in the future.

Wanako's next game is 3D Ultra Mini Golf Adventures for the Xbox Live Arcade, and Vivendi said the team is developing a number of unannounced titles for Sierra Online. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

god damn it! VU games ruins anything they touch. Assault Heroes was a badass game, but i guess we can say goodbye to anything else of quality from that dev now that they are owned by VU. :(

iI live in Chile, and I had no idea there was such a company (must be because I don't have a XBOX). But anyway this is the kind of news is good to hear of. I always wanted a developer to be located here.... This is just the begining I hope

*sigh* I don't trust them. I used to hate when their reps would come into my store and fill me with lies about their games.

Interesante. No sabia que habia desarrolladoras de juegos de video en Chile. Dudo que esta noticia sea el acontecimiento mas grande del mundo, pero siempre me gusta oir algo sobre Chile.

"CyphenX That's all well and good, but "3D Ultra Mini Golf Adventures"? WTF? Could they possibly add more junk into that title?" Cool, yo soy Chileno (I'm a Chilean guy). Anyways CyphenX it could be "3D Super Ultra Mini Golf Adventures and Journeys".

Sagacious_Tien: Yes, it feels very natural... well in the same vein that Sierra stopping all in-house adventure game production to work solely on action titles felt "natural." Sierra have tried to stick with the "On-Line" aspect of their namesake; and I'd bet that all Sierra XBLA games will have Live based multiplayer.

Cool news. Assault Heroes is a fun game. Glad that game development in Latin America (and more casual/arcade games as a whole) are getting some recognition.

Nice one I suppose. Sierra Online is getting more and more into Xbox Live Arcade, which is fine by me.

Meh, assault heros was fun, but too short, maybe with a cash infusion they can make a larger scale production. Assault hero's achievements are semi-borked also, which makes me wonder about quality.

I think that's great news. Assault Heroes is an amazing game on every level, and I'm happy that the developer just got a huge financial and distributive boost.

I'm not sure if that was a good buy or not. Assault Heroes was, at best, ok.

The largest developer in Latin America? Doesn't say much for the America del Sur dev scene. Wanako isn't a very large group... not to mention that their name sounds like it's a joke that I'm not getting... which infuriates me.
