Capcom has today announced the North American release of Viewtiful Joe for the GameCube. The game, which was conceived by Steel Battalion producer Atsushi Inaba and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya, sees players assuming the role of a superhero named Joe who must rescue his girlfriend Silvia after she's warped into a motion picture realm.

"Viewtiful Joe is a perfect combination of innovation and technology," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing at Capcom Entertainment. "When you see this game in action, the first thing that will strike you is the game's unique appeal for a classic side-scrolling action title. Viewtiful Joe showcases Capcom's legendary ability to bring innovative and original content to the video game industry."

The gameplay in Viewtiful Joe is largely combat-based, and players have the ability to use superpowers that can slow down time, freeze enemies, and allow Joe to move at superhuman speeds. For more information on Viewtiful Joe, check out our full review of the game.
