It's been a long, long week. Too long. And a long, long wait for Zelda. Now that it's out, we're going to have the long, long weekend to play! Woo-hoo! Yes, the major story this week so far has been Zelda 64, but that doesn't mean there weren't other major stories happening in the first two days of the week.

The big story this week is the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The most anticipated N64 game (and maybe the most anticipated game ever) showed up everywhere during the first half of the week, causing many shortages, lines, and excitement around the country. We followed the release all weekend and into the week, and we can now expect most of the country to be playing the game during the weekend.

Rumors popped up on the 'Net from Japan that Sony would soon make the name of its next console official - The PlayBase. While it's a rumor and SCEA declined to comment, passing it off as just another rumor in a long line of rumors regarding its next system.

Namco unveiled the first screenshots of Ace Combat 3 this week. Like the evolution from Ridge Racer to R4, Ace Combat has gone through a complete graphical improvement for the latest installment. It's still early, but expected to be released in Japan in early '99.

T. Hawk, Fei Long and Dee Jay return to Street Fighter in the PlayStation version of Street Fighter Alpha 3. The game will be released on December 23 in Japan, and will feature these old faces in new surroundings.

There's a rumor going around Japan that Genki, not AM2, is responsible for the Dreamcast port of Virtua Fighter 3tb. While not yet substantiated, we picked up a few clues. The mystery will be solved soon enough, as the Dreamcast and Virtua Fighter 3tb both go on sale Nov. 27 (Friday).

Finally, Ascii Entertainment officially announced that it has picked up the US rights to release Irem's classic shooter package R-Types. Containing R-Type and R-Type II, R-Type packs all of the shooting action of the first, with Dual Shock compatibility. Now all we need is for an official announcement of R-Type Delta to show up…

That's it folks! Be sure to check around for our Dreamcast release coverage next week. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
