Video Q&A: Swingin' with Spidey 3

Treyarch's Chris Archer talks to GameSpot about developing Spider-Man 3 at the game's premiere event in San Francisco.

One of the hottest entertainment properties coming out this year is Spider-Man 3 from Sony Pictures. The film will get the usual marketing blitz and promotional tie-ins, with Spider-Man-branded lunchboxes, fast-food meal deals, and action figures almost certainly already in the works.

The movie will also have the required game tie-in, which is being handled by Activision internal studio Treyarch, developers of Call of Duty 3. The game is tackling just about every platform, including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2. DS, PlayStation Portable, and Game Boy Advance.

Just after debuting some gameplay for the press, Treyarch executive producer Chris Archer spoke with GameSpot News at the Spider-Man 3 premiere event in San Francisco. In this video located in the GameSpot News Blog, Archer talks about developing for a fanatical audience, a high-powered license, and some of the new features in the game.

The Wii version will rock my socks! Think about it... using the Wiimote and Nunchuck to web swing. I'm already there. Hell, I got there, came back, and am going again!

I'm sure it was either some exclusive type thing or maybe just the fact that Blu-ray has the storage capacity, I think that's why the PS3 is getting the better version with exclusives.

Ive always loved spiderman games. Story was never as great as the moviez but man the game itself is fun. Why would Spiderman be jus for PS-3, While the story may be the same, game rights are bieng passed out seperately by marvel or somebody. Spiderman games have been out long b4 movies

Even though Sony Pictures owns the license for the movie, I think Activision owns licensing for the games. The only way for Sony to make it exclusive would be to pony up some dough. And even though I think this will be a pretty good game (especially with Treyarch at the helm), I doubt Sony thought it was worth it...

Sounds like it might be a fun game but I always fear movie games....

Isn't it funny that a Sony Pictures film is being adapted to a game, that will be coming out on Sony's biggest console rival, the XBOX360. I mean, they might as well get the money out of the DS version and the PSP just wouldn't cover the portable market enough. But putting the game out on PS3 and XB360? Sony should have taken an exclusive on PS3 for this one. I'm curious whose decision this was?

hopefully it is like Spiderman the movie 2 but deeper that was the best superhero game ever. They just need more varied crooks and bad guys and maybe after the campaign is done. have the major villians randomly be causeing trouble for us to battle with over and over again.

I think just about ALL games based off movies are not really made for excellent gameplay. But more just for marketing. But sometimes they gt lucky :)

Following_PoP "and I hope this game IS FAR FAR FAR away from what superman was. " hell yeah that game sucked the only good thing was the flying but it also got boring quick

Spider-Man 2 was a pretty decent game, lets just hope that spider-man 3 doesn't end up like the abysmal excuse of a game that was called "fantastic 4" That means sweet boss battles, and i think it would be cool if there were multi-part missions, like the ones in GTA, that take place over the course of many different locations. That would be awesome.
The game is tackling just about every platform
Why couldn't the editor just say, NO PC. Because obviously there's NO market for PC games!

This is going to be a hit or miss, your comming off a great game, not for its story, graphics, but that you could fly around the city.

When its for that many consoles, the game usually is pretty average. They will need to work a tad harder if they want this to be a success.

hmm... maybe this is where the PS3 will get to shine over a 360 counterpart, if Sony screws that, then they have a long road of pain ahead

I wouldn't get my hopes up with any version of this game. More than likey it will be just as mediocre as the last two movie tie-in games.

I can't wait for this game. I got even more excited knowing that I was going to be able to play it.. since I still only own a PS2 and recently picked up a Cube. SM2 was an amazing game, and I still have loads of fun with it.. so with them getting the web swinging aspect of being Spidey down, its nice to know they'll be focusing in on combat, and only adding to what SM2 was. Definitely can't wait.. even though I won't have the glitz the PS3 version will tote.. the PS2 version will surely please if its anything like SM2.

and the only way u can play as the new goblin is on the ps3 version sony owns the rights to the films so they made a deal with activision (the fonts are the same for a reason)
