Victorious Boxers jabbing Wii this fall

Latest Hajime no Ippo slugfest coming to North America this year courtesy of XSEED.

Not everyone had the benefit of seeing every minute of GameSpot's E3 Media and Business Summit coverage, so for those who missed the exclusive news that XSEED is bringing Victorious Boxers to the Wii, the publisher has put out an official announcement. Set for release this fall, Victorious Boxers: Revolution is attempting a more simlike approach to the sweet science than that shown in Nintendo's own Wii Sports boxing game.

Finally, an alternative to Wii Boxing!

As with two previous Victorious Boxers games on the PlayStation 2, Victorious Boxers: Revolution is based on the anime and manga Hajime no Ippo, better known in the US as Fighting Spirit. The game puts players in the sweaty boots of Ippo Makunouchi, a high schooler with bully problems who also happens to have the aspirations of a world-class boxer.

Because gamers--much like boxers--have their own preferences and styles, Victorious Boxers: Revolution will include three distinct control modes. Players will be able to hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in their hands and punch away as if they were the character onscreen, but there will also be a pair of less effort-intensive options. Gamers can use the Wii Remote as a pointer to target their attacks, or they can opt to bypass the motion-sensing gameplay entirely and use the Wii Classic Controller for the game.

For a closer look at the game, check out the live demo from GameSpot's E3 stage show.

I applaud the decision to allow a more traditional control screen in addition to the motion sensitive controls. The desire to adapt games to the Wii's controls has led many developers to forget that sometimes the old schemes work better.

this sounds cooo no matter what...but it would be sweet if the punching followed the hands better than wii sports boxing.

Strangely, the GBA game was never available in English. But... Gah! It's been over 2-1/2 years after launch, and there still is no commercially released boxing game for DS anywhere on Earth.

What about Fight Night ******? Or is that coming out on the next gen consoles?

I have both Victorious Boxers and Victorious Boxers 2 for the PS2 and they're both great boxing games (especially VB 2). I saw some videos of the new Wii Victorious Boxers and I was impressed. It would be nice if they can really nail the Wii Remote/Nunchuk setup. But it's also cool that you have the option to use the Classic controller as well. I'm looking forward to it! Oh, and the anime is great too!

@Zinkeboy Castle Shikigami 2 was translated by XS Games, not XSEED. Maybe do a little research before posting to stop yourself from looking like an @$$.

Wii? Boxing? yes please. I will have to try this one, and if I can't wait for Fight Night I may have to buy it. All I would need from this game is for the controls to be lil' more precise then Wii boxing, and to have a whole slate of options and characters to choose.

Might be fun as the anime is pretty good. But I wonder how the control scheme is for this game.

Bleeding Noses, Swollen Cheeks and broken wrists and that was all before this game was announced on the Wii! Should be a knockout. That's all folks

Looks like Punch-Out. As long as SOMEONE is making a Punch-Out-style game for the Wii (non-Virtual Console), since Nintendo's not, I'm happy.

This game looks very half-hearted. It's a shame really because I was hoping it would be excellent. Something for the fans only.

"...hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in their hands and punch away as if they were the character onscreen" OR "use the Wii Remote as a pointer to target their attacks" OR "bypass the motion-sensing gameplay entirely and use the Wii Classic Controller for the game." Sounds to me like the motion sensing polish and precision will be less than desirable if it's also made to react to button presses. You put all that punch swinging effort moving your arm from point A to point B to cause a move to animate, when a single button press does the same. Meh.

I agree. About time. Hopefully it will offer depth without destroying simplicity and intuitive design.

People seem to miss that this is being done in America by XSEED... probably the worst studio in existence. This is great news, because they're games are so ridiculously lowsy its hilarious. They're greatest accomplishment being Castle Shikigami 2. Just about every VO in that game is laugh out loud hilarious (usually because they have sexual overtones that were not intended)

Sounds like fun if the controls and gameplay work properly without any bugs.

After boxing in Wii sports, something like this had to be coming eventually. I like the idea that they give you the option of bypassing the motion sensing, even if that kinda defeats the purpose of the Wii...

I loved the demo, this could work with the Wii.
