Vanquish arriving on 360, PS3 this winter

PlatinumGames' fourth collaboration with Sega confirmed as a third-person shooter, will arrive in West in 2010.

When PlatinumGames was first revealed to the world, Sega was heralding a four-game deal with the upstart studio of ex-Clover Studio developers. Today the publisher confirmed that the last of those games--the Shinji Mikami-directed Vanquish--would see a winter release this year.

In a brutal fashion faux pas, Sam will be wearing white after Labor Day.

Vanquish was originally announced by way of a teaser trailer in January. The clip combined live-action footage with computer graphics effects to show an armored man in a space-borne firefight, but offered nothing concrete about the actual game. In announcing the game's release date, Sega and PlatinumGames also confirmed some speculation as to the nature of the title.

A third-person shooter with an emphasis on action, Vanquish will follow a government-backed one-man army named Sam as he takes on robotic enemies in a world where an energy crisis has once again put the United States and Russia at odds. Unfortunately, this conflict isn't another Cold War, with hostilities started by the obliteration of San Francisco from an orbital laser cannon.

In a statement, Mikami said the development team's goal with Vanquish is "to inject the extreme pace of an action game into a shooter." For more on the game, check out the teaser trailer below.

First Sega and Platinum bust heads with Bayonetta and now Vanquish. I know this game will not disappoint.

Must have, as with anything Platinum makes. Capcom was insane for shuttering Clover Studios (Okami, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, and they were primarily veterans of the Resident Evil 1-4\Devil May Cry games), they lost some of their best talent. As for this game, shooter with an action game pace, sounds like they're after what the mecha games Zone of the Enders or Metal Wolf Chaos captured.

Story sounds as cliched as they come, but as long as the actions good who cares. Sam in all his armour reminds me of the lead character from shadow complex.

The PS3 is the lead platform for Vanquish

Having Shinji Mikami at the helm means it's worth keeping an eye on for sure. PlatinumGames have a strong track record for such a young company.

It's made by Platinum. That's enough for me.

Since SEGA are involved expect a generic arcadie shooter that lacks any depth or immersion.

Gears of Cold War ? Does look interesting but too early to tell, going on Platinum's track record it might be somthing special.

It does feel like a third-person Crysis! GREAT! if it actually delivers. but will PlatinumGames and SEGA learn from their mistakes and give us PS3 owners a decent port of the game this time around?

First thought that came into mind was a G.I.Joe outfit being worn in the movie GAMER... looked similar for a moment, but yea, let the developers continue on this game and hope in the end it works out good for us all,,, could be a good game when completed, graphics looks strong too.

What does that mean combining a shooter with action? It makes no sense.

I fully expect this game to be awesome. BTW, if it's a war over energy, then I find it funny that Russia is using a giant laser cannon.

All right, a TPS (Third Person Shooter). I wish goor luck and success to PlatinumGames for the most anticipaded TPS of 2010 (or 2011).

Mad World was okay, but I loved Bayonetta, at this point I'm looking forward to whatever Platinum Games comes up with. Hope to hear more abou tthis one soon. Like what yixingtpot said, it's rare for Japanese to come out with good shooters, though I thought Lost Planet was exceptional... anyhow, this should be interesting. It's being developed by the most seasoned of the ex-Capcom employees so I'm hoping it's pretty good.

Ha! Not an FPS. No more comparisons to Halo then please?

I hope they'll develop the game for both PS3 and 360. Bayonetta on PS3 is just SEGA's cheap ported from 360. :(

Shinji Mikami? Yes! This is the first time I'm hearing of this game, and I'm definitely eager to see more already.

Japanese have yet to make a decent modern shooter, so this should be interesting.

I hope Platinum Games don't do the same thing like they did with Bayonetta and develop it firts on the xbox 360 and then let Sega handle the PS3 version.
