Vampiric Family Drama in Dawnguard

E3 2012: We get a quick look at the new Vampire Lord in this upcoming expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

With some creative modding, you will finally be able to reenact your favorite True Blood episodes within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim thanks to Dawnguard, its upcoming expansion. At this year's E3 we got the chance to take a quick, hands-on look at this game and played as the new Vampire Lord. This special transformation was similar in concept to the werewolf transformation, complete with giant leathery wings. Vampires (and werewolves) also enjoy their own unique perk trees, letting you dive deeper into the customization of your supernatural gift.

Our character was already equipped with the perks Power of the Grave (+50 health, mana, and stamina when transformed), Vampiric Grip (an ability that pulls targets toward you and deals damage), and Summon Gargoyle (exactly what it sounds like). As the Vampire Lord, our first impulse was to put those wings to work and take to the skies. However, we couldn't muster more than hovering a few inches off the ground. Our brief adventure revolved around a mother and daughter arguing over a deadly prophecy and the need to prevent it from happening. Unfortunately, their conversation encompassed the bulk of our limited time with the game and was all but impenetrable.

The content in the Dawnguard expansion was estimated at taking as many as 15 hours to complete, and if playing as a new character, you can access the content at around level 10. It was noted that the Dawnguard content can get very challenging, so going in at such a low level might not be ideal. Hopefully we'll have the chance to see more of this game soon as the show continues. In the meantime, know that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard arrives later this year.

I want this now ! Still considering how much content the Pc users have with Nexus and Steam Workshop i guess its only fair the console players get something first this time. Yet I can't wait to become a Vampire , knowing how uninspired Vampirism is in Skyrim compare  to Lycantropy (Wolf Form) No story to bacoming a Vampire unlike Oblivion in Dark Brotherhood Quest Line. Sooo? When will this hit the Pc ???

"Dawnguard arrives later next year."

What? That doesn't sound right.....

I'm hoping they add some kind of challenge for high level/end-game players.  Plenty of people have already put hundreds of hours into this game, so it would be nice if there was something for them...maybe a super-boss or high-level quest.

No, the symbol in the upper right is Solitude and the lower one is Markarth.

"I don't recognize the model from skyrim." Doesn't the scroll the woman has on her back at the start of the video look exactly like an elder scroll?! -_- I mean honestly I haven't played for months and that's the first thing I noticed. smh

Elder Scrolls Series have been getting worse ever since Morrowind. The only good thing about Oblivion was the Dark Brotherhood Quest.

The DB quest in Skyrim was crap. The main quest in Skyrim was boring.

This DLC is not going to make this better, it's only the hype that's causing the illusion.

The only thing saving Skyrim like Oblivion is the modding community. If Skyrim had multiplayer, added with the modding community, this will be awesome. You could have like an online Zombie escape mod.

wait, 20$ for 15 hrs of gameplay? I sure hope there is a lot of exploration to do.....

"Vampiric Family Drama" I am already interested, imagine if there was a family in Skyrim that were vampires. The father would be 100 years old, his sons would either reject or embrace their dark gift, the daughter wouldn't care and the wife will be deceased because she couldn't take it. Real life emotions like that should be implemented into gaming, where we believe characters are doing things behind our backs, because it gives them life.

i just hope all my mods (or at least the more important gameplay changing ones) will still work into the DLC. i got enough mods that i can't play without.

I started playing the game again just to have a brand new char for this DLC :D still wondering how will this fit whit the Werewolves if you want to become Vampire Lord :D (don't know how this will fit whit TC quest line)

Skill trees for vampires and werewolves, good because all i use my werewolf power for is running from point A to point B quickly, I don't use it in a fight because, you do not regenerate health over time. Hopes for feeling like I should actually be feared as a mythical creature

 @Fergood I thought of the same thing when I heard Jane saying that. Clearly she has not played it all the way down to the end (or more likely at all).

 @idriss22 I say u simply dident play the game so your talling this **** to make your self feel better , a shame ...shame indeed.

 @idriss22

I agree in all honesty; the quest-line was nothing to shout home about. The dragons themselves succeeded in creating atmosphere and had a lot of presence, but they were scaled so poorly that a mud crab killed a dragon with low health on my play through, so that kind of killed the whole dragon encounter thing for me. Hell, the first 3 dragons I fought were killed by random mages and bandits.

It is in short, a very good if shallow RPG.

 @idriss22

 Here's an opposing viewpoint:  Skyrim was the first Elder Scrolls game I could actually get into.  Between the graphical presentation and the gameplay, Skyrim is a pure winner.  Sure, the story wasn't as good as Fallout 3's (IMHO), but it was engaging enough to make 400+ hours entirely enjoyable.  Skyrim felt like Fallout in a fantasy setting, and because of that I now have another series to look forward to throwing myself into from here on out...and I know I'm not the only Fallout fan who feels this way.

I still think Fallout 3 was better, though...

 @idriss22 You sir are either a smelly troll or a very very negative depressed person who likes to pass on negative comments on games most other people seem to like. To dismiss an entire game or main quest line as either crap or boring without anything to qualify the assessment seems provocative and.....well how can I put it   very negative.  If you disliked all the Elder Scrolls games after 'Morrowind' so much why not just forget about the whole thing and play something else and not depress yourself further by reading forum content about a game you clearly hate.

 @c0kemusheen That's not too bad considering people fork over $60 for a 5 hr COD campaign. I know they sink countless hrs into multiplayer but still $20 for 15 isn't bad. Fallout add-ons were $10 for like what another commenter said, about 3-6 hrs...

 @b10nutzWerewolves still cannot be Vampires as well, (Alas.) however, they do get their own perk tree with the dlc as well. Even better, you don't have to spend perk points to get them. You just have to kill things as a Vampire/Werewolf to earn them.

 @Lattata It is, Bethesda are hoping to release it for Xbox 360 June 26th (this month), far from certain of course. Hopefully PC isn't far behind.
