Valve kicks off Steam Summer Sale 2013

Dozens of digital discounts offered on Steam between now and July 22, alongside new trading cards and sale-specific Steam badge.

Steam's 2013 Summer Sale has officially begun across the digital distribution platform, offering a series of deals from now until July 22.

While there are discounts across much of Steam catalog, Valve is continuing its tradition of running time-limited sets of additional offers. Today's daily deals, which run for 24 hours, currently include BioShock Infinite for $29.99, Endless Space for $10.19, Defiance for $13.59, Left 4 Dead 2 for $4.99, Mars for $13.39, Scribblenauts Unlimited for $4.99, Hotline Miami for $2.49, Call of Juarez Gunslinger for $10.04, Toki Tori 2 for $9.89 and Don't Starve for $11.99.

A series of flash sales will run every eight hours, and at time of writing includes Dragon Age Ultimate Edition, Grid 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

On top of that, a Community Choice sale will run every eight hours, allowing Steam users to vote from a list of three for the next bargain. Right now users can vote to see Dishonored, Borderlands 2, or Far Cry 3 featured in the next sale.

Valve has also incorporated its recently released Steam Trading Card feature into the 2013 Summer Sale, giving users the opportunity to craft a Summer Sale badge after collecting all the new, sale-specific cards.

The Summer Sale badge requires ten cards in order to craft, with a special sale-themed card available for the following games: BioShock Infinite, Chivalry, Dead Island: Riptide, Football Manager 2013, Kerbal Space Program, Prison Architect, Reus, Skyrim, Tomb Raider, and Torchlight II

Additional cards will be given to players for each $10 they spend in the sale, and users who are at Steam Level 5 or above will get an extra card for every third vote they make in the Community Choice sale.

Accompanying the onset of the sale, Valve announced it had added Steam Trading Card support for BioShock Infinite, Hotline Miami, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Defiance, Toki Tori 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Bastion, and Cities XL Platinum.

I'm considering getting a 4-pack of Terraria and a 4-pack of Castle Crashers if anyone is interested. I'm probably going to gift 1 copy of each to my girlfriend, so that leaves 2 available for each game if anyone wants in... Let me know and I'll pull the trigger if a couple people jump on it.

Edit: It doesn't look like anyone is active in this thread. Oh well.... I'll check back just in case, but will look elsewhere.

Whoa! Civ V: Gold Edition for $23! I was about to buy it the other day and it was priced at $90. What a steal, and what luck!

Finally I can give this famed game a go.

Don't care... Got nice enough sales at the game-shop round the corner from where I live.  I prefer the physical stuff, you see.

Besides, I already have what I like among those listed.

"Call of Juarez Gunslinger for $10.04 and Don't Starve for $11.99"

Are you serious? That's what you call a sale these days? I can buy both of them for half that price. Same goes for Bioshock: Infinite.

Totally don't care.

It's hard to say it's any news - I mean, steam was slow as shit and barely even worked, screwing up all the time. It was hard not to notice it.

Going back to Civ

Headline states June 22 that needs to be fixed.

Steam sales are what PC gamers live for. If you are new to PC gaming or considering it this is a great time to build up a library for a fraction of the cost.

I haven't seen anything particularly great on the main page yet, but it is due time I pick up antichamber and I don't think I have seen it on sale below 50% off until now.

METRO LAST LIGHT IS 1 CENT IN BEST BUY!

It works only in the U.S. and it works!

I'm downloading it on Steam and it's 7.8 GB.

You get a nvidia code from Best Buy then you redeem it at nvidia then they give you a Steam code.

It's legit.

And hurry before they notice. Hehe.

@mjswooosh Umm for free? If so I would accept one. Already spent my money on other games, I'm thinking of getting Chivalry but not sure if I'll have even that little 4.5€ if it gets voted this night.

@JimmyJumpy Soooooooo why are you here commenting? You came here and read the article just to say you don't care? You're probably pissed that you bought those games when they're 75% off on steam now and feel the need to justify your actions. Your input is irrelevant and unnecessary.

@JimmyJumpy Then don't waste your time clicking on a digital delivery service that is excellent and ever growing. Steam is amazing.

@coolmayur00191 Do you have facts and statistics to support your claim? I'd like to see them. Especially applying to steam.

@Vidpci there is nothing wrong with dark souls, one of the hardest most intriguing games I've played.

@Toysoldier34 true

but remember that you should buy what you want, don't force yourself to buy something only becasue it's cheap

Accuracy158

@advocacy I'd be really surprised if we don't see 66%~75% off sometime over the next 10 days.  That game goes on sale all the time.

shafe-man

@Vidpci Steam sells you the license to play the game, just like EVERY PC game out there. When you press that "accept" button on the Terms and Agreements, you're agreeing to a license; not a product you own or buy. This is true whether you're using a retail, "DRM-free" edition or you're using a Steam version. You own a game on Steam just as much as you do any other game, except maybe GoG (which is relatively new). If it isn't CD-based DRM (Digital Rights Media), it's online-based.

Poodger
Poodger

@Vidpci You might as well own it, since Valve is likely to be around for a LONNGGGG time. And they have said in the past that if they did go out of business they would allow it for people to snag the games they own for good. Renting implies that you will inevitably lose your purchase. This is not the case.

@Commander_Snowy Sold out. :( Doesn't matter. By the time i have a PC that can run Metro Last Light it will only be worth $2 anyway.

@Commander_Snowy Ahh damn, wish I could have gotten one.  XD

I wonder how they stuffed that up though?  Lol...

OldKye

@Commander_Snowy They ran out of codes lol(no surprise) we may have all gotten one had people not bought like 35 each hehe.

Someones getting fired.

Commander_Snowy

Someone really messed up at Best Buy! I saw someone buy it 18 separate times, he plans to sell each for $5!

thequickshooter
thequickshooter

@Toysoldier34 @thequickshooter

in all honesty those discounts are a must for PC gaming

cause when you buy a PC game, you don't own the game, you own the licecnse to use it (unless you buy from GOG.com)

but sales are a must, and steam's the free market

redeem CD keys that you've bought from virtually anywhere

OldKye
OldKye

@Gears_0f_L0ve @Commander_Snowy legally they don't have to honor it cause it was a mistake my guess is they will honor people who got one but anyone who bought like 100 they may say "too bad so sad" lol and void the codes.

Gears_0f_L0ve
Gears_0f_L0ve

@Commander_Snowy @Gears_0f_L0ve I know, I realized too late, I probably could have bought 4 in that amount of time :p  Subconsciously I was thinking it was Steam and i could only have one in my account so why buy more. lol
