Valve adds new maps, weapon skins to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Valve introduces eight new maps and fifteen new weapon skins through Operation Bravo.

Yesterday, Valve released a collection of eight maps, dubbed collectively as Operation Bravo, to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The maps can be accessed after purchasing a $5.99 operation Bravo ticket from the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive store.

The maps are exclusive to Operation Bravo and friends of Operation Bravo purchasers until January 20, 2014. The ticket also unlocks for the purchaser fifteen map-themed weapon finishes through the game's timed drop system.

The new maps are top-rated community maps from the steam Workshop. The maps are listed as follows: Agency, Ali , Cache, Chinatown, Gwalior, Ruins, Siege, and Seaside.

All maps are playable in deathmatch, casual, and competitive modes. This is the first time these maps have been available in competitive mode.

An Operation Bravo ticket purchase also gets the purchaser an Operation Bravo coin. The coin, upgradable through playtime and wins, will display number of match wins, number of kills, headshot percentage, and an array of other statistics for the duration of Operation Bravo.

This news comes on the heels of Valve's announcement Monday that it is using the revenue from in game item purchases to raise the SteelSeries DreamHack Counter-Strike: Global Offensive prize pool to $250,000.00.

How about adding, idk, features? It's good though that now skinners and modellers and animators can get paid through the arms race thing. Just too bad most of them stopped making stuff a long time ago.

People can hate on Valve's crate/weapon drops and skinning all they want, but fact remains that the eSports case initiative has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars towards a pro-gaming prize pool and that is what will keep games from falling away into history. No one is forced to buy crate keys or weapon skins - so there is no need to get bothered by it. Companies make money to fund future projects - if people want to buy crate keys and earn the company money for future developments, so be it. I'm sure a lot of those complaining will also be the first to complain when the game dies or isn't given enough budget by the development company.

1.6 best CS to ever be made. Source a worthy successor. CSGO? Total dogshit. Anyone who defends this game is just as naive as the CoD gamers. Get real. And lol at the lightning strike awp camo hahahahah

No mention of updating the console version? Wow, this is ridiculous Valve, it doesn't even cost money to update the Xbox version anymore!

Glad to see Seaside back in the rotation, it's definitely a great map and I hope Valve picks it up for normal rotation.

...and is that de_siege I see?

too bad the gameplay SUCKS, this game could have been so good if it was made by people who knew what made the previous cs games so good,

CS:GO , nothing quite like it and the formula has been around for over a decade, nice to see it's still supported :)

I'm not a fan of this nickle and diming Valve is doing with CS:GO . Had to get that out there.

@yourdem1ze False 1.6 was awful compared to beta 7 and even 8. Valve ruined the game when they bought it. I'm sorry but if you can't drive an APC over a gigantic hole in a bridge and kill your entire team on accident in Siege, the game is no good. But there's no way any CS that came out after Beta 8 was any good at all.

Like, for example, do you realize the game quite literally has had 0 changes whatsoever in nearly 14 years? The last thing added to the game was the riot shield. Then removed.

@yourdem1ze Please enlighten me as to why you think this? Your comment makes it sound like CS:GO slept with your girlfriend or something.

I've been playing CS since beta 6, and competitively from version 1.0 to 1.6 and I have to disagree with you completely. Source was awful. Source is what made me stop competitive play and almost made me stop playing the game. Luckily there was a small 1.6 community that still played.

I will argue that CS:GO is miles better than Source, and like it or not, it's also much closer to 1.6 than source. The recoil patterns and hitboxes seem much more like 1.6 - I'm enjoying CS:GO immensely and have all my game settings set closest to 1.6 - the game feels very similar to 1.6, but with better graphics and physics.

1.6 will always be king, but CS:GO is right under there and miles ahead of Source.

@yourdem1ze Hey, CoD4 was great.  There's a reason the game has so much hype.  That said, CoD is dead to me.

@blitxxx1981 If it was like the previous map pack you will be able to play it in custom games just not on the official servers because they will get taken out of rotation.

@Ultra_Taco Really ?  It doesn't cost money to update games on MS consoles ?  Where did you see this change in policy ?

@Ultra_Taco Valve has had horrible history with M$.  TF2 hasn't even been touched since release.

@anab0lic I'm pretty sure you're getting CSGO mixed up with Source. The only problems i find with CSGO is the Valve servers are terrible (then again, they they always have been) and the P90 still hasn't gotten a nerf.

@SteamyPotatoes I agree about the CS part, just not about the GO part.

They lost me when they added "drops".

That and they have messed with the formula too much in favor of the "competitive gaming" focus.

While it is true that CS has been a choice of competitive gamers for over a decade...it was the community and community servers that kept this game alive this long.

Of course, I don't truly expect them to understand the magic of counter-strike, since they didn't create the game in the first place...remember it was a FREE mod in the beginning. A free mod not created by Valve.

@heythurmanz Just like with TF2, this is the only way Valve can keep releasing updates. You don't have to pay if you don't want to.

@heythurmanz Well dont buy it. Problem solved. Enjoy the rest of the game with every other like minded individual. Like me.

Draken_Domingo

@heythurmanz I'm pretty sure that they're doing the same thing with this that they did with Operation Payback; the money they make from this go directly to the map makers.

@heythurmanz hey don't confuse this with the real nickle and diming that activision does with the Call of Duty games, seriously $14.99 for 4 maps, a zombie level, and 1 weapon... $5.99 is not asking much for CS:GO

@Dieofnv It has been abandoned, just like HL2 and Team Fortress. The serious console community for this game is way too small.

Jebril

@finaleve @Ultra_Taco They hate M$, they've all but abandoned console versions I feel. TF2 is free on PC I got every CS game for 7 dollars (including this one) in the Steam Summer Sale, it's not hard to switch to PC gaming, it's cheaper and more enjoyable in the long run too.

anab0lic

@Draken_Domingo @anab0lic LOL no. Source was a far far superior game both in competitive play and pub play... the gameplay had so much more depth and was far more skill intensive....and on top of that and perhaps more importantly was FUN! Look at how many replies this gets on gamesport 25? shows how many care about this game, on twitch the major events barely anyone watches.... as someone who loved and played Cs for over 10 years.. it saddens me greatly how poorly the franchise has been handled,  could have been a good thing but they let hidden path develop it, who had no clue about what made the cs games before it so good...and yeah we ended up with cs global failure.

@snakebite6x6x6 You don'tneed to say free because all mods are free - they were created by amateurs. And CS, Front Line Force, Firearms, PVK, Battlegrounds, DoD - another mod Valve bought and ruined, The Specialists, They Hunger, this is what kept the HL community alive for 15 years. Not Valve. Not Valve at all, even including Portal and L4D.

dribblesbarbax

@snakebite6x6x6 I seriously dont know why some people go crazy over the drops. I just sell them on as soon as I get them. They are completely pointless to me.

snakebite6x6x6
snakebite6x6x6

@3v1LR0n1N @heythurmanz Considering that the maps used to be available for FREE in previous versions of the game, I would still call it "nickle and diming".

@NoahRoalson @Dieofnv This is because aiming with an analog stick sucks compared to the precision of a mouse.

CS  is a game where precision matters.

@aeterna789 @RicanV @SgTFuzzy-18 Pretty sure GO can't be played for 1000 hours. I've played CS for 15 years and even I don't have 1000 hours on any of them, that I'm aware of. And GO is nowhere close to CSS or CS.

aeterna789
aeterna789

@RicanV @SgTFuzzy-18 $60 for 102 of gameplay (at most), compared to a $15 game that has 1000+ hours of gameplay (at least). I wonder who got more for the value?

@snakebite6x6x6 At times. Considering the AWP used to have built in aim compensation in Source, and probably still does.

@snakebite6x6x6 I've been on the ps3 forums for CS:GO and it's pretty funny reading people talking about how "shitty" the shooting is in the game just cause it's not super easy point and shoot like most console shooters.
