US PC game charts: July 2-8

First week of Q3 sees minor shuffling in the usual cast of characters, with World of Warcraft on top again.

The holiday-shortened 4th of July week resulted in a lighter-than-usual release schedule, and the US PC game sales charts for the week reflected that. Aside from some shuffling in the ranks, the only "new" game to break the top 10 was Star Wars: Battlefront II, originally released in November of 2005. Battlefront II eked its way into the 10th spot, pushing out Electronic Arts' sim-minded NFL Head Coach.

As has become tradition, Blizzard's massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft sold the most copies and claimed the top slot again. THQ's Cars: Radiator Springs Adventures, the last non-WOW title to hold the top spot, continued to keep pace with the leader and finished in second.

While EA's latest sports game ended its brief stay in the top 10 this week, its Sims series represented in force once again. The Sims 2 and its Family Fun Stuff expansion pack were third and fourth, respectively, while the Open For Business expansion came in seventh.

The EA-published retail version of Half-Life 2: Episode One rebounded from last week's precipitous drop, jumping back up four spots from nine to five. As for the remainder of the list, THQ's mythological role-playing game Titan Quest slipped a few places to six, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion held steady at eight, and Guild Wars Factions slid slightly, from seven to nine.

WoW pvp is for morons who have no skills

What we bloody need is a RTS to kick WoW 0ff of it's throne and finally alert players that Pay to play RPGs are not where the true fun in PC gaming is. I will also admit that I purchased WoW and play it time to time but it lacks a lot of things that other games bring to the table such as Oblivion, Battlefield 2, etc.

Has anyone noticed that 7/10 of the top 10 games are a kind of RPG? I myself am an avid Elder Scrolls fan. However, seeing a few fresh faces instead of the sims and WoW would be nice. Battlefront is refreshing, though unlooked for.

If WOW is still seeling more than every other PC game after all this time it's been out, then it says more about how other PC games AREN'T selling than it says about how well WOW is.

World of Warcraft conquers again. Suprised? Well, you shouldn't. World of Warcraft is going to dominate the charts for a long time to come. And when the Burning Crusade comes out, forget it.

True, The Sims franchise continue to be a powerhouse with WoW because it's the only PC game that can truly appeal to families and to all kinds of women gamers--50 Simoleans, anyone? Guild Wars and Oblivion continues to stay up in the Top 10, and that makes me happy enough. You know, if it wasn't for the EQ franchise and CoH/CoV, GW, FFXI, and all the Asian MMO's, WoW's population would be at least 15 million, probably close to 20 million. All in all, Blizzard is clearly one of the top Game Publishers today; if not the best.

World of Warcraft back on top, sims game continue to be on the list even though family fun should not being that it adds only new items nothing more.Other then the other stuff on the list you have to wonder how Cars beat out Half-Life 2: Episode One or even Oblivion but I guess kids want that game and then it makes cars look to be a good game even though by next week most likely will not be on the list again.Good to see Guild Wars Factions still selling I can't wait to get Nightfall for the Guild Wars world looks good.

WoW's like $20 bucks at most retailers now. Between word of mouth and the tempting price-tag, the MMO behemoth continues to roll...
