Uproar Buys PrizePoint

Play for goodies site to be acquired by online game-show maker.

Online game-show producer Uproar Ltd. announced on Friday from London that it would acquire PrizePoint Entertainment for US$40 million in a stock transaction The transaction is expected to close sometime this June. For March, PrizePoint users were reportedly averaging 125 minutes on its site (according to Media Matrix). The site offers classic games and auction-style prize-reward offerings to users and will help grow Uproar's offerings from its 2.2 million contestants and 23,000 affiliated sites. As part of the acquisition, PrizePoint will keep its brand, PrizePoint's CEO (and PointCast founder) Chris Hassett will join Uproar's board of directors, and its 25-member crew will remain in New York.

Gamers may remember that GT Interactive representatives Allyne Mills and Alan Lewis left to join PrizePoint a short time ago.
