Uncovering the secrets from the new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare trailer

Democracy? DEMOCRACY?!?!!

Activision has finally unveiled more details about this year's Call of Duty. The game--Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare--is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, and is set in a future where private military corporations (PMCs) have become ultra powerful. The game's first trailer notably features actor Kevin Spacey in a key role as the head of one of these PMCs, but it also showcased plenty of footage from the game. So after watching the trailer, what details can we infer about gameplay in Advanced Warfare? GameSpot's Chris Watters and Erick Tay combed through the footage to bring you their thoughts.

First up, here's the official trailer:

And here are Chris and Erick with their best guesses as to what Advanced Warfare will bring.

What are your thoughts? What type of new elements will Advanced Warfare bring? Tell us in the comments below!

I would like it if the maps were much bigger and they had one or two vehicles that spawned randomly. Definitely waiting to see the ability of those suits in multi player.

From the looks of it there will be a light, medium, and heavy class...just like Unreal Tournament...from like over a decade ago. They should really be charging less money for their annual releases. Especially, if we're not getting anything new or original.

But why would they do that went we run out and buy every piece of crap and DLC they release? A lot of people didn't like Ghosts, but people still bought Ghosts, so what do the game companies care that it was not so great? Hey, kids! Think about it! Think about it really hard.

Every time you buy a game with a low standard of quality, you are directly contributing to future games with a low standard of quality being released. What motivation do the COD makes have to make a better game, if they know everyone will just buy whatever crap they release?

If Kevin Spacey was a some kinda sinister, bikini model, villain, with a thick ass, THEN I would be interested.  Seriously, wouldn't it be even more "futuristic" that the head of the PMC was a hot lady, and not just another middle age dude. Anybody aching to see an evil dude in a business suit?!

Maybe it will have mechs too. Jumping Bunny Mechs! Oh wait...ha!

You would think they'd want to separate themselves from the studio made up of employees they fired. Instead they copied the premise of disappointing Titanfall...which deliberately has no story. See, even the Call of Duty people themselves bought into the hype. These FPS clones are really making me look forward to Mario Kart 8. LOL!

I could dig a more agile COD. Hopefully agility is not something you have to earn and only get to use for 2 seconds before your are shot.

Hmmm....Exosuits / Cysis.....Jumping enhancements / Titan Fall.....PMC's taking over the world / Metal Gear

Did this game have one original thought? Maybe we can discuss that...

im not ripping on the game, I am just as guilty of propping up this series, but I think they are running out of ideas...

Spacey was a nice touch...but unless this game evolves, I am finally getting of the drug that is COD.

Evolution for this game since COD 4 has gotten significantly worse and worse...Im not blaming the developer, reality is that there are only so many ways to reintroduce the same game...

There is no secret. It's the same game you played last year, the year before that and the fucking year before that.

Well, I don't expect much from this, and it's gonna take a LOT to get me interested. But you all cannot deny that Kevin Spacey sounds like a badass. xD

this actually looks good but nothing like a CoD game (not like they have been actual CoD since CoD4) i'll probably try this. story seems interesting and graphics actually look like they are on next gen

With the writing and Kevin Spacey, this might be worth a weekend rental for the campaign.

Didn't look too impressive to me, just because, it looks like a bunch of in game cut scenes, rather then how you actually play the game. Also looks like a copycat of many many movies...attacks on the Golden Gate Bridge, how many times that been done to death? Or another game based in California/San Fran. Just old. I'm still a fan of the COD series, and will prolly play this and like it, but to me its just another cut scene video. We know what FPS look like, this video was little of that. But what it does look like its part of the 3hr-5hr single player game that usually gets done the first day you get the game.

And I didn't base that on the graphics, just what I seen. Not really sure if those graphics look fully next gen or not, cause I'm sure there is a part of this that will be ported where as both games might be a little of the same from ps3 to ps4 ect.. The COD already on PS4 didn't look too impressive to me compared to the past PS3 versions.

Are they using a new engine for this game?

I mean it looks good but not really next gen.

choicemaker

Theres still some hope for call of duty guys. But i will agree that the level of quality has dropped off completely. They have one chance to prove this is a true next gen game. The next gen was made to try and capitalize on things that werent possible and/or deliver a fresh new experiance and showcase that games can be taken to the next level. The trend im seeing is less is more. Ex titanfalls lack of content. You get less and if you want more pay extra... its sad. Im telling you all right now. One chance.

More arena style fighting. Kinda bummed because Cod has so much potential to expand in it's world but it just turns back to arena fighting.

They need to uncover the secret of better netcode, which as of right now, Ghosts has about the worst of any current shooters, including the incredibly average Blacklight Retribution Beta on PS4.

Maybe this explains why there are usually more people playing the crappy BF4 online than Ghosts at any given time...numbers that usually favored CoD by several hundred thousand players at least.

I don't understand peoples' need to tell everyone how they hate COD games? I always see comments like, "Oh look, another  COD game zzzzzzz" or "New game, same shit" or just plain old "Who the f**** still plays COD?"

Fact is, the game sells tens of millions of copies and is always on the top of the charts. Bashing on COD is even more stale than bashing on Titanfall and the Xbox and MS. We get it, COD, Titanfall and Xbox One are not for everyone. They're the cool things to hate these days. But, clearly, their are millions that do enjoy them.

People need to stop being so negative about everything and show a little tolerance and restraint. I see some people in the comments who never have anything positive to say about anything. Even when something they do like is reported on, they use it in a negative way to make fun of or bash others who don't like the same thing or can't enjoy it because they bought the "inferior" console.

I enjoy COD. I enjoy Titanfall. I suck at them but, they're a lot of fun. If you don't like something, that's totally cool. But, why the need to let the world know you hate it over and over again? I hate peas. I don't go around telling everyone all the time because, I know nobody gives a crap. So, why do people feel the need to tell the world how much they hate a game? Or a console? Or a company? Idk, maybe I'm just weird :/

Call of Duty: Advance Warfare?     It's probably a two way war against Titanfall and Battlefield franchises.

Not a massive CoD fan myself, but I have to admit, that trailer makes the next game seem interesting. Might well have to keep an eye on this one..

am i the only one who doesn't give a shit about multiplayer?! as for the single player campaign, it's the same old shit. i don't even know which one is battle field which one is cod, they all look the same.

One of the biggest things that I would change in COD is its overly simplistic causal driven nature! COD over the years has increasingly become more and more simplistic. I am assuming that it was done in order to meet the needs of causal players. Reintroducing hardcore elements back into the game would really be welcomed! Which means recoil in guns, footsteps, player layouts that actually makes a real difference in gameplay, also getting rid of cheap causal gimmicks etc, actually bringing back things that requires real skill and dedication to master. That said, I understand that doing such a thing might be asking a little too much from a franchise that prides itself on attracting the widest possible audience.

Dude , they didn't start making cod advanced warfare last year . People complain about how cod does the same things every year but when they're look like they are trying new things people be like ohh copying, copying I don't like it . This cod looks interesting for now , I didn't really like cod ghost . Not hating on anyone just saying what's on my mind.

@bdrtfm Maybe if COD wouldn't hog the headlines as if each annual release were bringing new revolutions to gaming and more deserving games would have the spotlight it probably wouldn't have so much hate. Face it, while it can be a fun game especially for casuals, there's no way it deserves the hype it gets every single year.  It's a "been there, done that" thing now. The massive hype just doesn't make sense anymore.

console_war_vet

@jark888 If it's a two way war between Titanfall and Battlefield, the only possible winner would be EA.

@cristigyk the names of each game are on the box and discs, pretty sure a big menu pops up when you start the game as well with the title...

@proarzlan  This new COD looks interesting and you are right to say that they were not copying Titan Fall because it takes many years to make a game and just because 2 companies had similar ideas and released them at similar times doesn't mean that they are connected.  I do have to say though that this game does remind me of HALO is some ways, I just hope the multiplayer is great and the single player is longer.  BTW ghosts had some interesting ideas, like the space mission and the underwater mission, but they should have made those levels longer.  I would have liked a multiplayer game where teams hunt sharks and the goal would be to kill the most sharks or something of that nature.  COD is innovative but other companies are now competing and are doing well, so COD better watch out.

@cristigyk @kevindm215Seriously? COD and BF are wildly different. 2 major points: scale is much larger in BF, and there are vehicles in BF. You must not be a big FPS gamer.
