Uncharted, The Last of Us dev hints at a "very special" 2014

Naughty Dog also teases that it is currently working on multiple projects.

Uncharted and The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog has teased that it has some major plans in the works for next year.

"2014 marks a very special time in Naughty Dog's history and we'll have more information about what that means early next year," Naughty Dog said on its website.

The only announced new project from Naughty Dog, beyond new single-player DLC for The Last of Us, is an all-new Uncharted game for PlayStation 4.

However, it appears that we may hear about a second Naughty Dog project in 2014, as the company said it will share news concerning "all our upcoming projects" sometime next year.

Naughty Dog has at least two internal development teams, though it is not clear what the developers behind The Last of Us will move on to next.

Creative director Neil Druckmann said in June that The Last of Us is "ripe for more stories," though he also explained that, "If we never do a sequel, we're OK with it, because we told the story we needed to tell."

The commercial opportunity to make The Last of Us 2 appears to be apparent, as the original game shipped over 3.4 million copies.

Ok so it's nearly Christmas and so I figure I can wish for something from Naughty Dog for next year (even though it is completely unrealistic and won't ever happen, like I said it's Christmas, I'm allowed to), ok so I want a 2014 release date for Uncharted 4 , then I want a new IP that you tease in the beginning in 2014 and then show us something at E3 2014 and to top it all of surprise us all by saying Sony bought Crash Bandicoot back and gave it to you guys to make a new game.

While I loved The Last of US, I'd also be OK if it never got a sequel. There are too few stand-alone games these days. If there was never intended to be a sequel, then don't make one. Doing so can only lead to mediocrity.  The Matrix anyone?

Right now I'm mainly wondering if 2014 is going to be a special year for ND because of what they're working on, or because what they're working on is a celebration of whatever is special.

what a poor taste of PS community  3.4-millions for such a AAA title is nothing. it has to be more than 6 millions minimum.TLOU would sell many more milliond on Xbox360 than PS3 if it was ported on that too.

Does every hit actually NEED a sequel? I can see Uncharted 4 since it's an on going franchise but leave TLOU alone and work a new IP.

uncharted 1 : mediocre game that no one gives a shit other than the poor bastards who bought a PS3 at launch.

uncharted 2 announcement: OH MY GOD THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME, HYPE.

This is when I realize gamers are idiots and game journalism is one of the biggest joke on this planet.

@denhoffi Crash would be great, but Sony never owned it, it was Universal all the time they just had three game contract for Playstation. But yes only Crash I'd buy and even play Naughty Dog developed one.

@3dmatrixgamer I kind of agree with you that exclusivity is bs, but it is what it is and for The Last of Us you need PS3, just like for Halo games you need Xbox. Thank god MS doesn't have anything that interests me, maybe Forza, but one game just isn't enough.

No it wouldn't it would look and play horrible on the 360. Plus the 360 don't deserve such a great game.

Sammy296
Sammy296

@3dmatrixgamer No it would not. First of all the ps3 now has a larger global user base of active systems than the 360. Secondly Naughty dog has already stated that the 360 hardware would be unable  to run the last of us.

@HipHopBeatsFor me it would depend on what they did with it.  They've created a rich gameworld with a lot of storytelling potential.  If they went somewhere else, leaving Joel and Ellie's story to stand as it is, I'd be fine with that.

I don't want to see a direct sequel that picks up the story where it left off or continues with the same characters, but new characters with their own stories could work.

That said, if they leave it as is, I'm fine with that as well.

@leakingdogmilk i think the media thing is more of an effect on you than anyone else. i played uncharted 2 and was blown away by all the little touches the game had. i bought a ps3 to play it after getting some hands on time with it in the sony store. this game had some of the best video game story telling i have ever experienced.

@leakingdogmilk ?? So when people disagree with you you they are idiots? I liked Uncharted 1 and absolutely LOVED the 2nd one. PS: There is more than your opinion in this world...

Uncharted 1 may very well have been "mediocre", but I still enjoyed it. The second game, however, fully deserved the praise it received. It was better than the original in pretty much every conceivable way. Then the 3rd one came along, and while I enjoyed it, I felt like that marked the end of my need or want to play another Uncharted game ever again, and I still feel that way to this day. I just have no desire to return to the franchise whatsoever, which is why the announcement of Uncharted 4 really means nothing to me. The Last of Us is an amazing game, and I would have much rather seen another story in that universe, but Uncharted has run its course for me. It was fun while it lasted...

@natalieyan @tinyname @senorbusyman i dont know i agree with him. i hated the 1st one but bought a ps3 just for the 2nd one then the 3rd one was good kind of a let down compared to number 2. just my opinion.
