UK Chart: BioShock Infinite soars to the top, Luigi's Mansion 2 lands fifth

BioShock Infinite enjoys the second biggest opening week of 2013 so far.

by

BioShock Infinite has soared to the top of the UK chart this week, with the biggest-selling opening week of any BioShock game in the series so far.

BioShock Infinite topped the week-one sales of 2010's BioShock 2 by almost 9,000 units to become the second-biggest launch of 2013 so far, but failed to beat Tomb Raider's week-one sales record.

Tomb Raider is in second place, with Gears of War: Judgment holding on to third place despite a 63 per cent drop in sales.

FIFA 13 is in fourth place, with the 3DS exclusive Luigi's Mansion 2 making its opening-week debut in fifth.

Two new releases sandwich Call of Duty: Black Ops II's seventh-place finish: co-op shooter Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel launches in sixth, and this year's Tiger Woods PGA Tour lands at eighth.

Assassin's Creed III hangs on at ninth, with Crysis 3 rounding out the top 10.

Other new releases include Lego City Undercover launching at 12 and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time at 31.

The Top 20 UK chart for the week ending March 30:

1. BioShock Infinite

I hope Bioshock: Infinite makes wearing thimbles a fashion trend.

So the multiverse can be thought of as a tree infinitely branching out with the choices made causing splits and new branches to grow from there. The choice of baptism or not was the starting point for there branch. Comstock and Dewitt are the originals split from the death of Anna. Comstock took the baptism cause he had nothing left while DeWitt still had Anna to live for but was still haunted from wounded knee. Anna was the variable while Dewitt was the constance. Elizabeth can use the tears in the verse due to having her pinky left in her original verse. Rosalind mentions this in a voxphone early in the gave as a possible source of her powers cause she had to get them from somewhere. I think the luteces use her power through the siphon.

BioShock Infinite looks really good and Well done to Tomb Raider staying in the top of the chart! Gears of War Judgement is a good game, I've enjoyed it over the last 2 weeks. Luigi's Mansion 2 looks good too and if I had a Wii U I'd definitely pick it up!

Only one COD game on the list, and it's not even  in the top 5. What in the hell is going on. Good on you Great Britian and friends.

top three are the best game so far in 2013, they deserved it (especially Bioshock Infinite)

I am just now playing the original Bioshock.  I'm approximately half way through the game and it is making me really want to grab Infinite.

Bioshock Infinite is a great game and deserves being on the top, if not more. Definitely GoTY material, but we are in april and have to wait to see about, yes, another shooter (suck it you hipster haters): Metro Last Light. Oh, and just to grind your gears, also The Last of Us, were you shoot too! :D

Wow. Its sad that God of War Ascension is so low and yet games like The Walking Dead: Instinct is way above it. Terrible.. Its good to see the top 5 being great games.

Nintendo keeping every single big release for the holiday season to hit the PS4 release! just that simple

LEGO City Undercover, a Wii U exclusive game hits the top 20. There's hope for this console yet.

and the "failure" of tomb raider still on the top 3 after a month, when supposedly everybody who will bought and play it already did it. yea right, Tomb Raider looks that is better than everybody thought. Well done Krystal Dynamix, keep the good work for the next one, you deserve better, and please start looking for a new publisher, to the hell whit square enix.

Bishock Infinite was well deserved of the position. However Tomb Raider looks like a very enjoyable game, I may get it later down the road

@tightwad34 It was in the top 10 for AGES. They've got to let other games have a chance, besides you'll get another one in November!

@monson21502 I of course respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. I am in the minority, but I am not at all interested in Bioshock. I don't like the setting at all. That is enough for me to avoid it no matter how good everthing else is. Remember the PS4 is still 7+ months from launch and some of the games looked really nice. I also don't like the fact that Bioshock is first person only.

@hadlee73 Sadly it'll be gone by next chart. One of my guilty pleasures of this decade

@Raziel5483 go straight to infinite after finishing Bioshock 1. Bioshock 2 is worthy game in some aspects, but it's the inferior product of the family. Gameplay and ending will make you reconsider probably.

@Raziel5483 BioShock 1 is genious and wonderful storytelling.  Finish it.  It's worth finishing before Infinite.

BioShock Infinite...well the only words I've heard giving it justice are Adam Sessler's when he compared it to EXACTLY where so many of us wanted the industry to go: to being a form of entertainment that can deliver it's own brilliance and artistry like books or film.

Just ignore BioShock 2.

@Mkeegs79 Walking Dead will be out of the charts by next week don't worry. Charts don't mean everything. Some of the best-selling games do it slowly over a long time, like The Sims

@nintendoboy16 Monster Hunter 3 is pushing console sales up skyhigh. This can only be a good thing

kohle36
kohle36

@nintendoboy16 Probably because after Monster hunter (which in itself is a slightly larger rerelease of a Wii title), it's the only WiiU title in the last 3 months. Not flaming, but damn they need to start releasing their 1st party stuff.

tightwad34
tightwad34

@AlexFili Unfortunately I cannot see when there will be a day when a COD game won't be on a top ten list somewhere. It has to die someday, just don't know which one that is.

@Poodlejumper "Finish it. It's worth finishing before Infinite."

Ah, but you have to play Bioshock THREE TIMES to finish it properly, since the game has three different endings!

Mkeegs79

@XboxGuy1537 @anonymousicko What? Just like Assassin's Creed, Mario games, Call of Duty, Zelda, Gears of War, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Street Fighter, Uncharted, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, and so on. All these popular games becoming cash ins? Say it ain't so!

nintendoboy16
nintendoboy16

@kohle36 Well they can't rush their projects. It's like Miyamoto says. A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is forever.

@PSBEATSALLDEAL2 added nothing.  It wasn't even done by irrational games.

What story did it add?  A "collectivism" lead by Lamb that was a counter to his "objectivism".  Meh..it was a mediocre cash in.  I played it once and forgot about it.  Not once did I feel emotional like I did at the end of BioShock 1 or Infinity.  I shed tears for those...only games to have done it.

If Levine isn't part of it, then it's not worth mentioning with the other two great works.

Gravity_Slave

@kohle36

you have no clue do you. 1st creativity and work is all about messing with people.  Do you honestly think dev/writers get to add their input?  no, they have to follow strict guidelines for the franchise.  You obvious have more issues than this...your anti American rhetoric just summed you up...

Mkeegs79
Mkeegs79

@nintendoboy16 @Gravity_Slave It was all Gearbox and how the presented both Aliens and Duke Nukem. I don't think it will be a continued trend with other developers. I would take every game on case by case basis.

nintendoboy16
nintendoboy16

@Gravity_Slave Fair enough. I fear Ubisoft will be taking this route for Beyond Good and Evil 2, either that or Mega Man Legends 3.

NeonNinja
NeonNinja

@Gravity_Slave @nintendoboy16

Aliens Colonial Marines was a case of Gearbox not caring about the game and too many cooks in the kitchen, man.  That game was passed along to FOUR different development teams.  All four are pretty solid, but really, having that many different groups involved is a recipe is for disaster.

And Duke, well, that wasn't entirely Gearbox's fault either.  They still share the blame with the games, but let's be honest, a lot of that was also 3D Realms.

kohle36
kohle36

@Gravity_Slave Yeah, well, we can't all be Randy Pitchfords. Like them or not, 1st party Nintendo stuff is almost always pretty high quality precisely because they don't subcontract and pick up messes of other peoples' work. Might take them half a decade, but they eventually get the job done. Nintendo of America on the other hand? Like pulling teeth just to get a flipping port out of those lazy, money-hating sobs

kohle36
kohle36

@nintendoboy16 Fair enough, it's just that running down the list of games, I see a bunch of stuff I want to play with release dates TBA, and sweet f**k all out right now. The only thing on the near horizon I'm at all interested in is Bayonetta 2, but it's not a system seller for me. Console sales will pick up once they start dropping those new Zeldas and 3D Marios (and *pretty pleze* Starfox and a new 2D Metroid), but it's a little head scratching as to the timing of it all.

I mean, they haven't done much with the Wii since 2011 (which, granted was a great year), but now the timing of some of the real system sellers is set to go straight up against the PS4 and next Xbox. I'm all for cooking a game as long as it needs, but they might be inadvertently shooting themselves in the foot here

Gravity_Slave
Gravity_Slave

@nintendoboy16

tell that to Gearbox (Duke Nukem Forver and Aliens Colonial Marines)....and boy, did they ever fuck it up forever...
