Ubisoft throws down with Fighters Uncaged

Belgian developer AMA Studios tapped to bring Kinect-exclusive brawler to Xbox 360 in November.

Microsoft's Kinect has another launch title, as well as one with a surlier disposition than the family-friendly lineup of fitness and action games already announced. Ubisoft today announced that it will launch Fighters Uncaged exclusively for the Xbox 360's motion-sensing camera peripheral worldwide this November.

Fighters Uncaged lets players practice their shadow (kick)boxing skills.

Developed by upstart AMA Studios, Fighters Uncaged pits players against a roster of a dozen underground fighters, allowing them to punch, kick, and yell to trigger 70 different attacks, combos, and superstrikes. The game will feature three different leagues to conquer, upgradeable character skills, and 21 different environments in which to brawl. The game also includes a multiplayer mode allowing friends to virtually pummel one another, a tutorial mode to bring players up to speed, and novice and pro control schemes.

Based in Belgium, AMA Studios is a subsidiary of Ubisoft sister company Advanced Mobile Applications. It was founded last year with a focus on "creating AAA console games that redefine the way players control their in-game characters."

Now that is more like it! I hope you can design your own characters. I would make one of my landlord and pummel the fiddlesticks out of it! Charge me for not mowing my lawn, you bas..........!

The only problem I can see in this is if you get tired and the CPU tears you apart easily. o.o

I'm actually a little concerned at the idea of players having to throw 'real' kicks and punches to make their on-screen fighter respond. A lot of those techniques, if done wrong, cause significant joint wear, especially when novices overextend them or don't warm up. I myself have a dodgy knee because when I used to do karate, I didn't rotate my supporting foot correctly when doing a roundhouse kick. If the developers of games like this aren't very, very careful, we could be seeing a lot worse than RSI of the wrists or Wiimote elbow.

i'm very happy to see this kind of game for the kinect camera, i just hope it plays well, i don't expect perfection being a 1st gen kinect game, but it does look really cool, very excited about this1

green_dominator It's almost comical how the two are so alike. The sales pitch is exactly what Microsoft is doing.. Even the picture above is the same as the picture on the box of the Activator. A dude throwing a kick..lol

@COPMAN221 I remember some of those ads. Kinect certainly reminds me of Activator.

@monson21502 Kimbo doesn't do any kind of kickboxing. He's a brawler, thats why he couldn't handle MMA.

@monson21502 Not if those "geeks" your referring to who normally play fighting games also happen to be trained in Muay Thai kickboxing, such as myself, so ha! no hard feelings, but besides this will hardly come close to mirroring a real fight. With something like this you lift a finger the camera registers it and it could be a knockout blow, its just gonna be another gimmicky game to try and get the older crowd into kinect, which anyone with some sense can tell by looking at it, and honestly who is going to want to shadowbox in their living room for a video game? I'd much rather just do the real thing to increase my real life hand speed and refine my technique.I don't need a video game for that, but maybe thats just me.

monson21502 you talk as if you have the game already. I have the move ad it works flawlessly.I'm going to wait and see how the Kenict does. However the Kinect and this fighting game reminds me of the Sega Activator and the fighting games for it. We all remember how well that worked and sold...

It worries me slightly that they've misspelled 'exhausted' in the screenshot. Apart from that, I'm excited :D
