Ubisoft seeking Assassin's Creed historian

Publisher looking to hire a writer with a thorough knowledge of stealth action series and spin-offs to work on a franchise encyclopedia; no previous experience necessary.

by

Though the Assassin's Creed series hasn't even hit its third proper iteration, Ubisoft's historical stealth action franchise has cultivated a sprawling universe all its own. Between the console and handheld spin-offs, downloadable content, comics, novels, short films, and even a Facebook game, Ubisoft is having trouble keeping track of the Assassin's Creed mythos.

Proof that making sense out of the entire Assassin's Creed universe is a full-time job.

In a posting on the official UbiWorkshop site, the publisher today listed a job opening for someone to help produce an Assassin's Creed encyclopedia. The only requirements a candidate must meet are an accurate (encyclopedic, even) knowledge of the franchise, strong organizational skills to manage that knowledge, and excellent English writing skills to communicate it all. Being located near Ubisoft's Montreal studio is also helpful, though working remotely is an option.

Those wishing to apply for the job will need to submit sample encyclopedia entries for various characters and key concepts of the series showcasing their talents. Those with knowledge of the actual historical events portrayed in the games can also garner consideration with detailed examinations of how the game treatment differed from real life.

For more on Assassin's Creed, or to research it for a possible submission, check out GameSpot's review of the latest console installment, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

I would love to see the Russian Revolution as a setting for a future AC. There's some great stuff to work with: the characters, the wonderful architecture, the possible weapons and technology, and geographical locations. Red Square, Rasputin, Bolsheviks, the people and animals in the streets. Imagine climbing the Kremlin!

i think the next assassin's creed is about desmond miles only, because ezio auditore was too old (he is 40, if the next AC is about him again, what will he do?? the templars almost meet their fate because ezio already killed their master) and the only idea i can think is about altair's journey when he was trying to hide the piece of eden (according to the codex) or ubusoft can start to focus on modern times where desmond are trying to save the world (I'M REALLY2 SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH, this is the first time i'm commenting on gamespot wall

come on, early britain, with the trench coats and stuff cause that looks stealthy and like you can assassinate people from your cloak, then blend with people by closing the jacket, and when you run the coat is like running behind you and stuff. my gosh, so epic d:

I think to keep the series legit and with 2012 (and the whole Mayan calander thing) coming up they should move to late Mayan history in Mexico and Central America as the Spanish Conquisaidors are taking over. You could have spanish settlements and Native American villigaes and secret Mayan locations, something old and something new.

They should go to the Medieval King Arthur times. Not that would be sick. Knights of the Round Table = Assassins? i just j*zzed

i wish that some how they explore the PHARAOs of egypt or the CZAR of RUSSIA or the SHOGUNATE period of JAPAN

I dont want it to become modern with guns everywhere like what happened to the Fable series. I also don't necessarily think that series has to move forwards in time again.... it could jump back to the time of Jesus, how cool would that be? Some real biblical references and exploration of religion etc etc (assassinate jesus? LOL). I'm an atheist and I would find a game with those themes very interesting. Otherwise... just stay in Italy.

@Tokinblckgie You see, that's the thing, they keep going forward and giving us much easier ways to kill, now it's as simple as being above and just aim with the gun. I believe they should leave the action for when we get cought, that way it's always an alernative. The stealth is always there too. Now, add a 3rd way, bribes, poisoning, conversation, heck even traps... Make the player think of interesting and unique ways of assassination let the player use their brain!! You could go the MacBeth route and blame the guards for your doing That's what I feel the series is missing.

@Evilnator Everybody asking for Egypt, Roman empire, etc. I don't think that's where the series is headed. It's started out (assassin-wise anyway) Medieval wit Altaire and is now in the Renaissance with Ezio. It would only make sense for it to continue forward into modern times. Going backwards should be left for a prequel. Otherwise the story will likely just become more convoluted and drag on longer than it should. Besides, they'd have to axe some of the newer tech like guns, gliders, etc.

i'll take the job...? My heed is full o useless sh^te anyway

As a setting... I'd go for the Roman empire. Just with that setting i can already think of some interesting story twists.

This would be my dream job. Except I have not played any spin off titles on the handhelds unfortunately.

I can only see that Assassins Greed will end up with a game where the majority of the action will be as Desmond with maybe a few "flashbacks" to other ancestors in different time periods. As long as you can climb and jump about on rooftops sneak up on people and stab them in the back then it's all good.

i feel like egypt, time of the pharoahs would be an amazing setting. Exploring pyramids and killing 100's of guards =p i know its goin back a couple thousand years but it could fill a gap in the story (there isn't a gap but ubisoft are so creative im sure they good fit something in)

@Vari3ty This is what happens, when a new franchise grows itself into a great and very big universe, that immerse people from all over the world.

An amazing opportunity for a very lucky person... I'd apply myself but I just don't have enough love for AC to do an encyclopedia on it; you'd need to know the subject back to front for something like this.

i read someone saying that assassins creed is a generic action adventur game??????? tell me 1 game that has similar combat to that of assassins creed??? hell the reason i love AC so much is because its so completley difrrent and unique!

@Rocker6 Thats not how it happened. Slavery in America was abolished by the drastic decrease in the cost of cotton. New materials were being explored that were basically replacing the need for cotton and these materials didn't need mass labouring to be harvested. So because slaves weren't needed as much, slave trade became unpopular and Abe Lincoln pushed the bill to abolish slavery because it became so that it wasn't heavily relied on as it was in the past. Lincoln didn't abolish slavery, the economy did, he just put the seal of approval on it.

They left out the best potential perk of this job: You would presumably get to meet, or at least converse with, Jade Raymond. :)

How about NINJAS.. :P They well known on Japan or Chinese history.

This is a bit odd. Usually, at an early stage of development you're supposed to come up with a 'story bible' which is a document you use to ensure continuity etc. Unless they either skipped this step (unusual) or lost the thing (bizarre) I can't say why they'd need this. Ah well, easy money for someone.

@penpusher you've got it right, i'm studying the civil war, and abe lincoln actually said that if he could stop the war by leaving the blacks slaves, then he would. Don't believe people when they tell you that abe lincoln declared war on the Confederates to stop slavery, he was trying to keep the nation together. :P

@Rocker6 actually assasinating Lincoln wouldnt be to hard to beleive, he introduced the imancipation act but I would image american history class often neglects this was a political move not a moral one ... He wasnt evil but he was a politition first and foremost and quite devious at that

I'd do it. I can write cryptically and have an imaginative mind thanks to years of dru-... of studying the art of.. stuff.

@Rocker6 -major spoilers follow- End of Assassin's Creed II you were trying to assassinate the pope!!! Also 100's of supposedley 'good' people from history have been implicated as templars in the AC universe, so Mr. Lincoln would be fair game...

As much as I would like to recommend AC wikia (great source by the way), it constantly changes and under goes many updates. Almost every page has a 'help clean-up' sign above it. Ubi is looking for someone to make it final so to speak.

Why not consult the Assassins Creed Wiki? Or maybe some its contributors?

@mosamania Assassinate Abe Lincoln? That doesnt make any sense, assassins fight for the freedom of ppl from templar control and slavery. And Abe Lincoln stopped the slavery in the US,if I remember my history classes. And American revolution wouldnt be a good setting,I want something more unique, without rifles, that would turn AC into TPS.
