Ubisoft details ShootMania Storm

TrackMania developer Nadeo crafting online PC multiplayer first-person shooter with "extensive" map editor; open beta due in coming months.

At its media presentation at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Ubisoft unveiled first-person shooter ShootMania but said little about it. Today, the publisher formally announced the game as ShootMania Storm and offered the first details about the title.

A ShootMania Storm is approaching.

A PC multiplayer online game, ShootMania Storm is currently in development at TrackMania shop Nadeo. According to Ubisoft, the game will boast "extensive" map editing options, where players can design and share their creations with the community. This sharing will be done through ManiaPlanet 2.0, an upgrade to the creation platform launched in 2010.

Ubisoft did not announce a release date for ShootMania Storm, but the company did say an open beta for the shooter will launch during the months ahead. A website for the game is currently live, and it gives gamers a first glimpse at the art design of the title.

@ jedikevin - doesn't matter to me. If Nadeo gets money so does their publisher and I won't support Ubisoft one bit. Sorry Nadeo but you sided with the wrong publisher.

When I first saw the title of the article, i was wondering if it was a spin-off of Bulletstorm.

To those who do not know.. The game will be run thru Nadeo's Maniaplanet client just as trackmania 2 is. Its a online fps shooter. No need to get up in arms because of Ubisoft horrible DRM (of which Ubisoft has cut off of many of there games anyway) as this a bit outside that status quo.

Agreed, . The onerous DRM on many PC games has pushed me to buy their equivalents on consoles more often than I would otherwise. And even that may be jeopardized as the industry moves toward single-use codes for multiplayer access.

@GazaAli big mistake if you do that my friend this is Nadeo and the mania series Ubisoft doesn't ruin all games you know

Going to give them the benefit of the doubt until more details are released, but the name is definitely clownish.

I wish I could care about this game. I really like Trackmania and Nadeo, but siding with "DRM" Ubisoft has basically ended my buying from them. Sounds cool though if the map editor is good - but doesn't every shooter have an editor almost these days?
