Tyson's Return to Video Gaming

Codemasters signs Mike Tyson to appear in an upcoming PC and PlayStation boxing game.

This morning, UK-based Codemasters announced that controversial heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson has been licensed to appear in the company's upcoming Mike Tyson Boxing. Under development for the PC and PlayStation, Mike Tyson Boxing will focus solely on Tyson and include training and career-management modes of play. Codemasters representatives told GameSpot News that Mike Tyson Boxing will actually be a localized version of Prince Naseem Boxing, already released in Europe.

"Believe it or not, it's my kids who have been after me to get a game going for quite a while now, and I've been watching this whole area of sports-based computer and video games, waiting for just the right opportunity to become involved," said Tyson. "Codemasters brought to the table a long string of hit games and showed me that they've got what it takes to make a boxing game that I'm proud to put my name on."

Tyson's last video-game appearance was for Nintendo's Mike Tyson Punch-Out for the original Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1986. Mike Tyson Boxing is expected to ship next May for both platforms.
