Two Silent Hill games coming to PlayStation Vita in Europe, no word on US release

Silent Hill: Origins and Shattered Memories coming to Sony's portable this year for £7.99/9,95 Euros.

Konami will release two old Silent Hill titles for the PlayStation Vita, the company announced today. The games are Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Release dates are expected to be announced "shortly."

The two Silent Hill games, which were previously available on PSP, will cost £7.99/9,95 Euro each, though pricing or availability information for North America was not announced. We've followed up with Konami for comment.

"The Silent Hill series enjoys a stunning reputation for innovation and terror, and these re-issues will introduce a new generation of users to its terrifying secrets," Konami said.

I liked silent hill origins, although the narrative was pretty straightforward, the ambience of the town was there and it still had akira yamaoka working on the sound!

But if I had a choice, I'd pick SH2 & SH3 for Vita any day! Make it so, Konami!

I never got to play either of those games, and I imagine that with the Vita's OLED screen they would look wonderful. They should at least as good as a CRT television.

What's the point?

Are there more features? Better graphics? Improved gameplay?

WHATS THE POINT!?

Nice. Origins is good, clean Silent Hill fun and I never did get to finish Shattered Memories on the Wii. Consider them bought.

older silent hill games rocked. modern one seem too bent into the lame world of north american highschool horror cliches. i like the more japanese creepy bizarre shit.

i've only played 1 and origins. 1 is great but origins sucks and it is very boring.

I played it on 360 as it was unplayable due to crap controls and bugs on PC.  It should have never got released on the PC, as was a very very very poor Port with more bugs in than the Rain Forest.   I did enjoy it on the 360 though and the next one on 360 Downpour.  So hopefully this gen we will get some nice Silent Hill games on PC, PS4 and X-Box One.

Konami needs to consider giving the franchise another chance on PC. Homecoming might not have sold well on Steam, but that's probably because it wasn't that great compared to the others. Origins on Steam/SteamOS could do well.

Re-Issues? So just straight ports or are the graphics improved? Pretty stoked to play Shattered memories on my Vita after the disappointing 'book of memories'.

To hell with repackaging yesterday's cold and funny smelling leftovers, we need a next gen Silent Hill.

How could you possibly enjoy the full effect of a Silent Hill game on a handheld...

the original PS One Silent Hill game still isn't playable on the Vita,  for some reason.   It's one of the few playstation one games that isn't Vita compatible.

I remember playing a demo for Silent Hill a long time ago.  Much too freaky for me.

@VenkmanPHD My fav horror game of all time. They should really remake all the silent hill games in 1080p and better graphics.

@Business_Fun Shattered Memories was a bunch of flat out BS.

I played through half that game, just wondering when I was going to find a gun already... turns out you NEVER DO. You just run and run and run.

@Karchy I couldn't get through 3... those footstep noises made me fall asleep every single time I tried to play it.

@wexorian  both of those games are absolute shit... if you played Silent Hill 1; how can you actually think Origins was even good; let alone garbage? It didn't even come CLOSE to following the story of the Silent Hill series and the story for Travis was so hideous it made me almost give up on the series as a whole... and sadly I still bought Homecoming, Shattered Memories AND Downpour; thinking that one of them would maybe be a little better than Origins... and they were all as bad or worse...

@Balderick1974  If it wasn't for the online multiplayer paywall, I might have gotten a PS4 by now. I make an effort to avoid consoles like that, so it doesn't matter if the game has an offline mode or not.

@Aphyosemion  DOWNPOUR had a good idea but totally lacked what made SH games so great:tortured soul guilty protagonist,I mean the guy would do anything to punish the abuser/killer of his son,he was desperate no room for  moral dilemma, not one that stop him to deal with his side of the bargain, and he would even reconcile with the daughter of the dead cop in one ending. Not the human horror aspect that the original japanese games were all about, that was scarier than monsters...and the ending with her being imprisoned:cheap cliche moral lesson.

@Aphyosemion  I honestly don't want another Silent Hill game if the current team is working on it. Send it back to Japan. Best case scenario let Kojima make a Silent Hill game.

And let Pharmakon do the soundtrackk!!

Andrex1212
Andrex1212

@campbell22  Either you haven't played 1 - 4; or you have one of the oddest and shittiest senses of what makes a good horror game...

Andrex1212
Andrex1212

@playstationzone  He never said he would make the game... he said he would MAYBE produce it; but what he was saying was he would let a new company who works on Silent Hill use his new ENGINE. The FOX Engine. He never said anything about actually making the game. He also was mainly saying that for press and to flaunt his new engine that he's so proud of.

@ChiefFreeman  I've beat it NUMEROUS times on the Vita... so I have NO idea what you're talking about. Did you just hear that from some idiot who couldn't find it on the store, or have you ever even played it on Vita? It didn't work on the PS3 for some time and they had removed it from the PS Store for awhile until they fixed the issues... but it has worked on the Vita ever since the Vita was released...

Balderick1974
Balderick1974

@ChiefFreeman  Hi,  I played it on my vita for 1 hour and it seems to work now.  So give it another blast, not quite same on a handheld though.

@ChiefFreeman  Silent Hill is on the AU Vita store, and I just downloaded it. Booted up and is playing fine right now. (I got it with PS Plus a few years ago, pre-IGC)

Dannystaples14

@ChiefFreeman  Wait but they sell it on PSOne classics don't they? Surely if it didn't work they wouldn't sell it on Vita to start with.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@Gallowhand  A friend of mine never went near Silent Hill for that very same reason.

I think Resident Evil gave a demo for Silent Hill on a separate disk. Says a lot about how much atmosphere that game had when it can make people avoid it just using a demo. One of the best horror games to come out ever.

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@Andrex1212 @wexorianHomecoming was awesome.

And if you are playing Silent Hill for story, I don't know what you are expecting. Never expect good story from eastern companies, they have no grasp on realistic emotion.

Shattered Memories however was certainly shit alright... no guns... just runing.

withe1982
withe1982

@Dannystaples14  Pretty sure it's available on the Vita store now. I've played it remote play from my PS3 a while back  and the graphics are just so dated. Even with the amazing OLED on the Vita it still looks like crap.

Andrex1212
Andrex1212

@Dannystaples14 @Gallowhand  It was actually Metal Gear Solid 1 that had a promo with a demo of Silent Hill on it. I don't think Capcom is going to put a demo of a competing franchise on one of their discs...

@VenkmanPHD @Andrex1212@wexorian

Imo the story in the silent hill games (and I'm talking about the numbered ones) 'reads' like poetry; whether you think it is bad or not depends on what parts of your imagination you use to fill in the blanks.
