While filming for the much-anticipated third season of David Lynch's cult TV show Twin Peaks is well underway, there has been little official news about the show. To date, only star Kyle MacLachlan has been confirmed in a role. However, it has now been reported that Naomi Watts and Tom Sizemore are the latest members of the ensemble cast.

According to Deadline, Watts and Sizemore will join the likes of Laura Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Amanda Seyfried as new additions to the world of Twin Peaks. Watts' breakthrough performance was in Lynch's 2001 thriller Mulholland Drive, while Sizemore is best known for such films as Heat and True Romance.

Original cast members who are rumoured to be returning include Sherilyn Fenn, Miguel Ferrer, and Sheryl Lee. Deadline also suggests that Lynch himself may revisit his own character of FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole.

Last month, Showtime president David Nevins announced that the new season would premiere on the channel in early 2017. "I've seen 25 minutes of cut scenes," he revealed during the TV Critics Association press tour. "I was shown selections and bits. I have not seen an entire assembled episode. There are no assembled episodes yet. This was just to get a feel for various characters.

"I don't want to sit here and over-hype, but it was incredibly exciting. It definitely felt like you were in the hands of a master."

Twin Peaks originally ran for two seasons between 1990 and 1991, with the prequel movie Fire Walk With Me following in 1992.

Disclosure: Showtime is a division of CBS, which is GameSpot's parent company.
