Turtle Beach making Xbox One headsets

Headset manufacturer working with Microsoft to bring "advanced audio solutions" to gamers.

Turtle Beach and Microsoft announced a new partnership this week that will see the headset maker become one of the first to create Microsoft-licensed headsets for the Xbox One.

Official products, pricing, and release information will be announced in the coming weeks, though Turtle Beach promised its technology will bring "advanced audio solutions" to gamers.

Turtle Beach currently offers a suite of headsets for the Xbox 360.

Microsoft has not announced any first-party Xbox One headsets, but said earlier this week that more details on accessories for the platform will be shared next month during the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Microsoft's E3 2013 press briefing is slated for Monday, June 10.

If Microsoft keeps their third party hardware connection fee to under $15, I'm all in, baby!

Heh! I remember I had a turtle beach sound card once. The PC magazines gave it top grades all over the world.

I used to get Russian radio station static on it (I live in Scandinavia). It was kind of funny when I started hearing Russians whisper in the background in all the wrong games.

I had some other problems with it too but mostly it worked just fine and their support was lovely. I think they were fairly new on the sound card market at the time (1GHz Computers were all the rage) so they're probably better at it now.

What is this with licensed headsets though? Will it still support standard USB headsets?

My Turtle Beach X42 is awesome! Anyone that uses anything less isn't really gaming.

Why would you use headphones with an integrated living room entertainment device?

Will my microphone pick up every goddamn wind gust in my room like their big hulking monsters do right now? I hate being in a party with a TB user. It's the fucking worst.

Well, you surely have to buy this if you want to get sounds from your xbox one. Same reason I had to buy a "windows 8 ready" keyboard and a "windows 8 ready" mouse for my new pc... -.-

sooo do I have to buy a new set of headphones for the nextgen consoles? do I need to buy a new tv too? what about electric outlets? do I need to get those brand new too?

Good news for the 3 "gamers" that are going to buy this "console" I guess...

So no BT headset support??? If thats the case then thats a step back.

They keep saying that they are trying to simplify your living room. All I see is more complications. It's a big reason why I backed off apple.

I guess just like apple, the x1 will sell plenty. People ar3 suckers for fancy marketing and buzz words. I'm almost expecting an apple style advertisement from M$

I Think company's who use resources to make a faulty products should get fined big time so when they create new products they are made to please us not their shareholders! Its time for the game industry to have its own panel who will represent gamers\consumers rights otherwise we are always going to loose.

One makes consoles that brake after a while, the other headsets that wont work for 5 years b4 a fault is developed, a true capitalist friendship.  I have had 2 XL1's in the past 3 years and that says enough about the commitment Turtle Beach makes to its consumers.

I have the Turtle Beach XP300 with the Earforce DSS and I have been pretty impressed with them for the year that I've used it.  I had a pair of Trittons before and the XP300 blows those out of the water.  Charge for the wireless headset lasts a good gaming session. I'm hoping I can just run the audio through the optical audio output and use an available USB port to power the transmitter.

ArchibaldEagle
ArchibaldEagle

I've been pleased with my XP400 headset.  Although I'm sure people are pissed about the compatibility with next-gen, wouldn't you be able to simply run your optical audio out through your TV to have it work?  Both PS4 and XB1 will have USB ports.  Thoughts?

I have 2 Turtle Beach headsets. The XL1 (for Xbox 360 only) headset fits great and sounds great.  As for the other http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/call-of-duty-headsets/ear-force-charlie/62 .... quite heavy and hurts the top of my head and when playing for a long period of time it gets to feel even heavier.  Lucky I only paid $60 or so for it at EB Games/GameStop at one point.  Still I haven't used the headset enough to see if I would get used to the weight of it but really Turtle Beach it would be advised to see if you can make headsets like this lighter and not hurt the top of people's heads right off the bat. LOL ......  The sound quality was wonderful though.

PupilsDilated

Turtle Beach products are WAY over-priced!  I've never been impressed with the sound quality from any of their products, in fact, it is quite poor.  There are much better options out there.

Just to reiterate on what I was talking about earlier, if I upgraded my computer with the latest video card, motherboard, processor, and ram would all of my PC games suddenly stop working? Would I have to repurchase all of my hardware (Mouse, keyboard, headphones, game controllers, ect)? Would my headphones suddenly stop working? No! None of that would happen. If the computer was very old there's a chance some of my really old games might now work but anything fairly recent would be fine. All of my hardware would still work fine. So why is absolutely nothing backwards compatible on the Xbox One when it is basically a standardized computer? All you guys making excuses for Microsoft right now saying they have to do this to move the hardware forward must not know diddlysquat about computers. This is Microsoft's way of taking your money all over again and it is totally unnecessary. New hardware is absolutely no excuse for what they are doing. So either they are damn lazy, or they are trying to rip us all off. Guess which one it is.

well i can't deny the new technology and it's restiections but hell why couldn't they make an adapter for the X1?

oh right i forgot that M$ are ASSHOLES!

Turtle Beach is pure garbage. The last headset I bought from them only lasted a few weeks before giving out. It wasn't covered by the warranty either because the speakers snapped off too within the second week of use.

They said it was misuse on my part. Bull, it was faulty design. I always take care of my entertainment accessories, especially if they cost me a pretty penny.

I'm still pissed about it too, if you couldn't tell.

The headsets of Turtle Beach are crap. I bought the most expensive one last year and gave it back right away

Unless you're one of those bro-gamers who call themselves 'MLG Pro No Scopz' don't bother with these and grab a pair of Sennheisers which are much much MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH batter value AND they won't break in 4 months...

There is no good reason the old ones shouldn't work you money grubbing ass holes, there I said but it's bloody true.

When i buy a new mp3 player or PC i dont have to buy new headphones, i mean come on Microsoft i thought you was cutting edge.

Aweeesome. Hopefully markedly less crappy than the Xbox360 headset. Those things are so junky.

I have a wireless headset, which now has apprx 5 minutes of battery. a nice, comfy, relatively inexpensive in-package wired solution would be most welcome.

I don't like paying for online services either, but when I have to choose between PSN, and Xbox Live I greatly prefer Xbox Live. Also, I don't sign up for the monthly fee plans on Xbox Live, as that is a rip off. Instead, I purchase 3 month cards, or 12 month cards from amazon when they are on sale. I have purchased 12 month cards for $30-35, and 3 month cards for $12-17. At such a cheap price, I will gladly pay for what is a better network, especially since I often take advantage of the Gold members only sales. Also, I take part in Xbox Live Rewards, and have received 2-3 months of gold free, multiple arcade games for free, and something like 1200-1600 points for free.

I was worried about the backward compatibility issue because I have 70-80 Xbox 360 games, but with the Xbox One having HDMI pass thru, you can hook your 360 up to the xbox one, which will turn the 360 off and on when you need it, and you'll be able to use the Xbox One as a DVR for your 360 gaming sessions. While that means you would still need to have both consoles, I like that they will work together. There have been rumors of an add-on for the Xbox One that will allow you to play your 360 games, but it would need to be really small to justify my buying it.

Old headsets functioning with the next generation of consoles will likely not be the issue some people within this comment section are making it out to be. If the connector is different, you will likely just need a $2-5 adapter. I have used Tritton, Turtle Beach, Sennheiser, Plantronics, Razor, Astro, and more. With most of these headsets, even if it was designed for use with one console, or only intended for the PC, I could usually get them fully working (audio and voice) on other consoles, or the PC with simple adapters.

One of the things I like the most that has been confirmed about the Xbox One is the ability to install your games to the HDD, and then play them without the disc in the tray. I don't like extra wear and tear on my disc drive, so I always install games to my 360 HDD, but you still need to put the disc in before your game will start. Being able to play all of your games without the disc in means you'll be able to quickly jump from one game to another, and your disc drive will only take wear from game installations, or if you choose to watch a dvd/bluray movie.

I just realized, the One (from spec sheets) does not have Bluetooth like the PS3 or PS4. So I have a feeling that the market is going to be more limited with the One than with the PS4 (if it's anything like the PS3, you can use any Bluetooth headset with the system).
