Turok Evolution update

We spend some time with the PlayStation 2 version of Acclaim's prehistoric shooter.

We've had a chance to spend some time with the PlayStation 2 version of Turok Evolution. After checking out the Xbox version of the game, we've been curious as to how the PS2 game is shaping up. We had a peek at a previewable build of the game and were impressed by what Acclaim has pulled off on Sony's hardware.

The game's visual quality is comparable to the Xbox and GameCube versions of the game, though the development team has made a few adjustments because of the PlayStation 2's inability to do certain special effects (such as bump mapping) in hardware. The game's frame rate is fairly stable and stays pretty smooth despite the onscreen carnage.

From what we've seen so far, Turok Evolution is coming together nicely on the PlayStation 2. The graphics are solid, and the control is responsive. The game is currently slated to ship at the end of this month and should be available the first week of September in stores.
