Try to watch this new footage for Tony Hawk's Shred Session without thinking about THPS2

Tony Hawk is now an endless runner.

If you're of a certain age, you'll probably have a special place in your heart reserved for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. You might also feel a pain in your chest when watching footage of Tony Hawk's Shred Session, a new free-to-play mobile game which features the legendary skater doing his best Temple Run impression.

Still, maybe there's room on your phone for a skateboard-themed endless runner. There's two modes to pick from: Survival has you focusing on performing tricks to keep your score alive for as long as possible, and Shred Sessions has you focusing on specific objectives.

There will be five different locations and six skaters included at launch, according to a hands-on report from TouchArcade, and there's two in-game currencies with the possibility of supplementing one of them with real money. More content is also said to be arriving with post-launch updates.

Tony Hawk's Shred Session is currently readying itself for a soft-launch in the next few weeks, ahead of a general release this summer. You can also watch Hawk himself demonstrate the game in a new video (above).

This game is certainly a curiosity, but it seems to fail to hype for the possibility of playing THPS on mobile.  I wonder how well this will actually fare among casuals.

I thought more about temple run than about THPS...

Oh dear, there went that last blip of respect I had for Tony Hawk.

I tried to watch this and not think "why isn't he in a retirement home yet." but I couldn't.

Wow, this is hot garbage. I was kind of excited about the idea of being able to skate on the go. I just wanted a small open street world where I can be creative and rip shit up.

That doesn't remind of anything even similar to Tony Hawk on PS2

Its been over a decade since there was a decent TH game....

Another example of how mobile is destroying gaming.

Yes, because I love playing games that my finger is all over what I am looking at. THPS was epic early on, on consoles. I don't know wtf i just watched, but no thanks.

I don't mindlessly hate mobile games. I've actually played some really good ones, but this is disappointing. I was expecting something like Skateboard Party 2, but instead we're getting yet another Temple Run clone.

First Crazy Taxi, and now Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

Damn shame that these franchises are being bastardized for cell phones instead of being given a proper console game.

I am less thinking about two and more thinking about why is this once great franchise reduced to this. A freakin free to play runner game. I suppose this will be cod's fate in some years.

I thought 3 was the best in the old series, but that's 100% personal memory experience.

You're going down, Tony...then up...then down again! Because that's how the game is played.

I miss the old Tony Hawk games, THPS2 was one of my favorite games ever. I'd love to see an actual reboot that goes back to those roots, not some bad revision like this or a bad remake like THPS HD

lol. Love how they always pretend in mobile game trailers that piece of sh*t they are playing is good, something grounbreaking, but actually is yet another piece of garbage (you cant even call these - games)

@Blazen702 seriously hope you're trolling- he's referring to the downward spiral that tony hawk is going since coming out with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 which is arguably the best in the series.

I liked 3-5 enough to have owned them but nothing beat THPS2 on PS

@wEEman33  I wouldn't even mind if they were given DECENT mobile games, but damn, they're creating them as poorly as possible and with little to no gameplay similarities as their predecessors.  Crazy Taxi... you don't even DRIVE!  WHAT THE FUCK?!  You choose which direction you wanna go and the game does the rest...  piss poor effort imo.

Are you still in 2010? Skate has been quiet for years. And if EA does not make a game like that yearly and it is this quiet don't expect it to come back anytime soon.

@IgOr2099

I liked the original Tony Hawk on Dreamcast the best. It had pretty good graphics, classic levels, and video tapes. The levels of 2 were bigger and better, but the objectives and style of the original have always lured me the most.

@IgOr2099 @Blazen702 I liked 4 more than 2. I spent the most time with one, but I enjoyed 4 a lot. Underground was irritating for some reason, even though I played as Dave Grohl.

@annabiabrum @EasyComeEasyGo  Probably because the company that made the Skate trilogy, Black Box, is no more.

Skate was a great series, but EA ran it into the ground by releasing three games in three years.
