Tropico 5 announced for PS4

Ruthless dictator of Tropico El Presidente will grace the PS4 with his presence.

by

The next installment in the city-building simulator Tropico 5 is coming to the PlayStation 4, publisher Kalypso Media confirmed in a press release.

Developed by Haemimont Studios, Tropico 5 will be the first in the series to release on a Sony platform, and "will take full advantage of the unique features of the PlayStation 4," Kalypso said.

"We are delighted to be able to work with Sony to bring Tropico 5 to PlayStation 4 and enter the next generation market.” Kalypso Media Managing Director Andrew Johnson said. “The PlayStation 4 version of Tropico 5 will expand the Tropico brand to the new generation hardware and to a new generation of gamers."

In addition to advanced trading mechanics, scientific research trees, and island exploration, Tropico 5 will also be the first game in the series to include cooperative and competitive multiplayer for up to four players.

The game puts you in the role of El Presidente, the dictator of a fictional banana republic named Tropico. It plays much like other construction and management sims, but allows you to rule with an iron fist by committing electoral fraud, instating martial law, and other corrupt activities.

Tropico 5 had already been announced for PC and Xbox 360, but not Xbox One. It's set to release this year.

I never played Tropic, but if the graphics are as good as the screenshot on top (with gameplay to equal it) then I'll be buying it in the first week.

I've only played the first Tropico, and it's one of my favorites. Bring back PopTop!!

Ah yes, the city-sim that did curved roads years before EA tried to bullshit us they were the first to give us them in the crappy Sim City Lite.

glad this series is still alive. after SimCity's passing (since SC4), Tropico is all that's left for city management sims.

Did they just draw random borders on that globe?

Strategy games on consoles...ewww

Anything involving micro and macro management doesn't go well with a controller.

It's like navigating the web or playing a FPS with a controller or even playing a fighting game with a K/M...It just doesn't fit.

Great trailer, good reference! Nice to see a new Tropico, but I can imagine playing without a mouse.

I've never played a Tropico game before. It now seems as if I have to, for it sounds amazing!

These games have always been a fun little time killer, hopefully it becomes a PS Plus game pretty quick.

This one sounds cool, I heard there are different eras. So you can basically play that Tropico 2 style era where it's like pirates and whatnot.

Pretty good series... but controlling games of this type with an xbox controller is a serious exercise in patience. Even touch would better suit strategy games then an xpad... do they make an xbox mouse? That would probably work well for FPS too...

Tropico 4 was really fun! I'll definitely pick this up for PS4--I wanna see more strategy games on the consoles too.

not my taste of game but good for players who like strategy. And I think more strategy games for next gen than ever.

I've never played the Tropico franchise but if it helps bring more strategy games to consoles I'm in.

Cool, i still think Disney should partner with them so they can create Knights of the Banana Republic...

Tropico 3 & 4 were on Pc and Xbox 360, so it's no surprise that the 5th game is on those platforms. It's surprising they aren't making it for XBox One since this game shouldn't require much to run. Guess it will be announced later down the road. I've never played this game, so I have no clue if it's any good or not. This really seems like a mouse/keyboard type of game though, so it probably would be more enjoyable on the PC anyways.

Sham it'se not on XBox One and Xbox 360 are on it!

it should be on XBox One instead Xbox 360.

Really? So your going to make an Xbox 360 version but NOT an Xbox One version? Your just going to skip over that possibility and go straight for PS4? The Play Station bias that's taking over the industry is starting to get on my nerves. Same thing for Diablo 3. Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 but no Xbox One? This trend better stop.

@undo Actually from what I can see, Scandinavia is on the left so Russia is in focus (from looking at it without playing the video). The borders seems fine.

@adawf  tropico is a fantastic game, and theres more amazing games releasing on ps4 in the next few months, cant wait for infamous and mlb 14 ps4 is epic, no need to await greatness its already here

@zerofrust  I've played Tropico 3 & 4 on consoles, Ruse, End War and Halo Wars. All were fine. As for FPS, they work a-okay on a console.

Nice to know a lot of people still believe in "A console strategy game - NO". Actually, have you played RUSE with the PlayStation Move? No? Go and try it. It will put your bitching to ease.

@Devils-DIVISION   like Dota & Lol. well strategy games are KB/m exclusives but i always wonder why consoles don't have kb/m support.

@Biotasticmeat  PS4 bias? wtf are you talking about? theres as much bias on both consoles to counter your argument i'll give you two names dead rising and titanfall now try thinking before posting stupid comments

@haze0986   yea in the next few months, that's not already here. and tropico is ok I guess, on a pc.

@iamllamapie @zerofrust

Let me reiterate for you,the minute you have limited controls to access the menus, commands or the area of play itself(and in most cases they have to oversimplify the game itself to get it to fit with the controls)...it becomes borderline retarded.

But hey if that's what you enjoy in a RTS, by all means go ahead.I guess personal enjoyment is the bottom line.

And if playing a FPS with a controller was that fine,i don't think devs would make aim assist mandatory in most cases(hell they even offer auto-aim too as option sometimes).Aim assist completely defeat the purpose of the FPS itself. You don't aim per se,the aim assist is holding your hand doing so.

Biotasticmeat
Biotasticmeat

@normanislost @Biotasticmeat Your an Idiot. Dead Rising has always been an Xbox exclusive. Titanfall is a new Xbox exclusive. Those games are EXCLUSIVE! By your logic your trying to say Tropico is a PS exclusive but technically it was a PC exclusive until Tropico 3 released for Xbox 360. Tropico 5 is out for 360 and PC as well which means its not wholly a PlayStation only game. Your a dumbass Sony drone and your part of the reason we cant have nice things like XB1 version of Tropico 5.

MadKeloo
MadKeloo

@zerofrust Your statement doesn't make any sense in a game like Tropico or any other strategy game, where all you need to play it is a mouse and two buttons, that's all.

How the hell they'll have "oversimplify it to for consoles to fit the controls" ?

You'll have to use more buttons on a controller to navigate and play the game, then on a PC with just a mouse. How is it "simplified", what's more simple and user friendly or however you want to call it then a mouse and two buttons ?

All this hate towards consoles, and console games and gamers is really dumb and annoying coming from ignorant people that don't have a clue, and just hate like idiots based on their misconceptions and prejudices, and not on fact.

I don't even own a console and this dumb hate is getting on my nerves. According to some "experts" everything that's on a console is "retarded" for "retards" simply because they hate the controller, how it works feels etc..

You don't need many buttons to enjoy a game, not how many buttons you have to press makes a game good or bad. You don't have to use more buttons on a PC game then on a console. 99% of strategy games play with just a mouse and 1 or 2 buttons, FPS need 4 more, meaning WASD, and shortcuts, or the mouse wheel to change weapons, so how is overly simplified on a controller ?

Actually it's more difficult to play FPS on a controller, not to mention an RTS, would be much more clunky.

@zerofrust While I agree that your sentiment is usually the reality, there have been a few great Strategies on console, and not all FPS have that aim assist crap - just the shovelware for the masses. It all comes down to the individual cases - this could be done well and it could not... have to see
