Tribes Aerial Assault online update

PlayStation 2 owners looking forward to the next online game for the system will be pleased to hear that Tribes Aerial Assault has been released and its servers are up and running.

Comments

Tribes Aerial Assault, the latest PlayStation 2 shooter to feature online play, has been released, and while we've had our copy of the game for several days, we haven't had any online opponents to test the game's multiplayer mode out with until today. We've played only a few online multiplayer matches so far, but it's clear that the game's online feature (which includes game modes like deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the flag) works just fine. There seems to have been a steady increase in the number of players and servers as the day has progressed, and getting into an online match with other players is less time-consuming than getting into a game of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs. Additionally, Tribes Aerial Assault so far doesn't seem to be suffering from the launch problems that plagued SOCOM.

Tribes Aerial Assault is the first online PlayStation 2 shooter that supports both modem and broadband connections. The game's horizontal split-screen mode also lets two players use a single PlayStation 2 to play online together. We haven't tested the game using a standard phone line just yet, but we'll be sure to let you how well it works in our full review of the game early next week.

For more details, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
