During the Electronic Entertainment Expo we got to check out a fun little game called Zephyr: Rise of the Elementals and got a taste for what it's like to wreak windy havoc across the countryside. Since our first hands-on, the title of the game has changed to Tornado Outbreak, though Zephyr the wind warrior is still the main character. At Comic-Con, we learned a little bit more about what Zephyr and his blustery buddies are all about, and why exactly they have come to Earth. Read on to find out more about their mission, and watch the clips below to see Tornado Outbreak in action.

Despite their obvious (and entertaining) destructive power, Zephyr and his friends aren't as indifferent to life as they might seem. Usually they spend their days roaming the stars, visiting empty planets, and creating atmospheres so that one day complex microorganisms might climb out of some primordial ooze. One day, they stumble upon a strange being named Omegaton, a massive ephemeral alien from another universe. Omegaton is fading quickly, having been ousted from his home by his enemies and stripped of his six live-sustaining orbs. He needs those conveniently numbered orbs to stay alive. Anyone else feel a quest coming on?

Indeed, Zephyr and company are eager to help out, but it's not as easy as all that. The orbs have landed on Earth, but our yellow sun is deadly to the intrepid wind warriors. Omegaton musters up enough energy to help shield them, but it's clear that the whole deadly-sun thing is going to become a problem sometime down the road. Omegaton's enemies have also showed up on Earth. The gremlin-like fire flyers and towering cactus-like totems will try to stand in Zephyr's way, though how exactly he and his friends will dispatch them remains a mystery.

Zephyr and the wind warriors certainly have their work cut out for them, and no, they apparently aren't concerned about collateral damage. In fact, causing damage increases their power and (presumably) their ability to fight evil, so you can kiss your vegetable garden good-bye. Tornado Outbreak is scheduled for release this September.
