Microsoft has today announced its first tennis title for the Xbox. Top Spin, which is being developed by Power and Magic Developments, will be Xbox Live-enabled and will challenge players to compete on worldwide ladders to claim the number one online ranking.

Top Spin will feature 16 professional tennis players, but players will be encouraged to create their own online tennis personalities--along with traits that might see players throwing their rackets to the ground or arguing with the umpire after a questionable call. Different courts in the game will include the requisite clay, grass, and hard playing surfaces, and players will need to master slices, lobs, spins, and drop shots if they want to climb the ranking ladders to the top.

No release date has been announced for Top Spin at the time of writing, but we'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available.
