Everytime I watch this show I'm reminded afresh of my idiocy in buying Skyrim for PS3 when I have a perfectly good PC.  That Dragon Cliff Manor looks amazing.

Skyrim is still providing fun thanks to mods. Even the core game is fun to replay. That is true to TES.

How many exploding chickens a computer can handle should be a way to test how good it is.

A most excellent episode!

I still don't get why anyone would think an Elder Scrolls game was suitable for anything but the PC! Nothing wrong with console games, but this isn't one of them as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, I'm surprised! No comments complaining about this show NOT being news or "Why is this on the main page?"

Can it be true? Is this the first show, where no one bitches about this?

Wonders shall never cease... It would seem.

Anyway, another brilliant episode to add to the collection.

@rsj2 Do like me and buy a second copy during the Steam sales. It's not expensive.

@rsj2 Same here. I haven't played Skyrim in a while now. Have they fixed the frame rate issues and long load times yet for the PS3? That's the thing that irritated me and really detracted from an otherwise awesome game.

@robert83a2 Just because you don't play a game after its been out a month doesn't mean that others do.

Get your head out your arse, loads of people still play Skyrim.

udubdawgz

@robert83a2

i'd say millions are currently playing skyrim during any given week.

in fact, if i were to guess, skyrim would be the #1 game being played worldwide.

per week, total # of hours, in households, whatever category you'd like to create.

Stebsis
Stebsis

@robert83a2 Who plays? Usually at least over 30-40 thousand daily on PC, plus console players.

udubdawgz

@seaniel

that's just too ridiculous of a question to answer with any seriousness, but, i'll keep it pithy:

playing video games and skyrim on consoles is fun.

@NovahJCMP PC as in the machine, definitely do so. Purely from the gaming standpoint, apart from mods you also get some neat discounts on PC games. If you are serious about it, make sure you get some advice and make a custom-built one, not a pre-built PC. More often than not you're going to get more performance for less money with a custom-built PC.

As for Skyrim PC version, wait a bit and go get The Elder Scrolls Anthology with all Elder Scrolls games, because if you get bored with Skyrim, you may want to play the previous games and there are mods that can make both Morrowind and Oblivion look pretty up-to-date.

rsj2
rsj2

@BarkingSpider81 @rsj2 Yeah that annoyed me too - I've been playing again since the DLC *finally* released and it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem.  Load times in particular are a bit better.

robert83a2

@eddieham13 @robert83a2 a lot of kids with lot of free time, what the heck is fun with Elder Scrolls anyway, I've tried it, after 15-20 hours it was boring me death...nothing interesting snow everywhere, 1.000.000 books.... 2.000.000 quests + dynamic quests that you don't give a damn about.... well the gaming world changes I guess... in the days where MineCraft is a piece of art that is played by billions of people because It's so awesome and new... I guess it's normal for people to play Elder Scrolls oblivion for a hundred years after it's released and still have like 100 quests remaining....

this is on the border of Fanatics I guess...

eddieham13
eddieham13

@udubdawgz It's not.. I am not talking about mods either. They made a horrible mess of it on consoles. There are soo many bugs, Twice the amount than there are on PC. Not to mention the framerate.

Thanks a lot. The Elder Scrolls Anthology looks great but you have definately made me consider getting a PC. I may just buy one though because I would not be very good in making one. Thanks for the advice anyways.

@robert83a2 in which of those games you can recreate entire world ? None

So you dont know anything about Elder Scroll World. There is only single player yet the Worlds Most Played series of all times probably.

robert83a2
robert83a2

@eddieham13 @robert83a2 Could be I don't know...I mean I've enjoyed...FF7,FF8,FF9,FF10,FF12, Gothic 1,2,3 (4 not that much...didn't even finish) ... Risen 1,2 , Witcher 1,2 ... and Gears of War 1,2,3,4 God of War 1,2,3,4 .... it might be just that my attention span is somewhat shorter :) yep it's probably me....I hate games where I have to play forever....or for a very long time to do something... same reason I don't play WOW :) .... I like my games from 10-30 hrs long, and after I finish I like to wish for more...not the other way around ...play 100 hrs and say...damn what's next dang....

ps.: adventure games as well, Discworld 1,2 , Simon the Sorcerer 1,2... I'm getting old perhaps :D Flight of the Amazon Queen

@udubdawgz @eddieham13 There is an extensive list of bugs on both of the the elder scrolls wiki sites. The console version has many more and they are unfixable due to lack of console commands.

Do you have the ps3 or xbox version? Did you have the game from release?

There may have been bugs that you didn't notice, like you were meant to receive an item but you didn't. Perhaps one of your followers has disappeared off the face of the earth? PC you can bring her back with 1 or 2 commands, however as many console players have reported they have lost Lydia as she did have a bug were she would disappear.

Also there are plenty of bugs regarding marriage, especially with Lydia and Aela.

There is a big were a shopkeeper that carries unique spells in dragonborn becomes a follower and if you use him as a follower it may but may not cause his entire stock to become empty forever. Sometimes it does return if you leave Stoltheim and return later. If that doesn't work and your on console then you will never be able to get the spells he has.

That's just an example of many bugs in skyrim. They do exist on PC yes, but most are easily rectified.

In regards to framerate I can assure you that especially late game it gets pretty bad in areas like Whiterun. Did you not see the Skyrim forums on release? The PS3 and Xbox sections were going crazy with people complaining of memory leaks, bugs and framerate issues. It could get to like 10 FPS during the large battles.

udubdawgz
udubdawgz

@eddieham13 @udubdawgz

i've put in close to a thousand hours in skyrim and i have no idea what you mean by "soo many bugs" or "framerate."

both of those aspects are non-issues on my game.

@NovahJCMP The processor is called AMD phenom 2 Quad Core black edition prcoessor 3.4 ghz it's close to the performance of an i5 and it's nearly half the price. As for motherboard go Asus their the best, I recommend the M4A89TD Pro it's cheap and it's easy to unlock the cores of the processor on that board and overclock it to around 4ghz. I wanted to give you this information, because you can save alot of money and still build a very fast rig.

reddwarff100
reddwarff100

@NovahJCMP When I said ATi I meant the Sapphire HD 7850 it's nearly $100 cheaper than the Nvidia 760, it's basically a better budget card, and you won't lose much performance cos the HD 7850 is one of the best cards if not the best card for overclocking.

reddwarff100
reddwarff100

@NovahJCMP I don't recommend going Nvidia.. go ATI and get a 7850 Radeon, and as for the processor yes I recommend AMD the 955 Quadcore black edition processor, and yeah I agree find a good contact through a friend and ask them to build it for you.

arqe
arqe

@eddieham13 And no games for you ! ( Linux ) AMD is good yeah but not that much. Nvidia is more stable , reliable.

AMD is a consumer friendly ( as price ) card.

Nvidia is more of a pro thing. And look at Nvidia supported games and then go look at AMD supported games. See the difference , even as numbers.

eddieham13
eddieham13

@Moegitto @NovahJCMP Ha! Who told you that?

AMD is fine, just because you paid twice as much for the same performance. I've had my PC for over a year now and it runs exactly the same as it did when I first got it.

I have an Intel processor and a high end AMD graphics card.

The graphics card lets me run any game on max settings and I have no problems. In regards to durability, you must have had one dodgy card and from then on AMD is now crap? No its still good.

I have a friend with an Nvidia and mine is just as good as his however he paid a little more.

Not to mention that AMD offers more support for Linux.

Daian
Daian

@NovahJCMP I strongly recommend you ask a friend that knows this kind of stuff to make you a custom PC, pre builts are considerably more expensive. And yes, go Nvidia, GTX 760 if you're on a budget, 770 would be great, and 780 ideal (the 760 offers great bang for buck though).

Moegitto
Moegitto

@NovahJCMP Gotta remember to go NVIDIA if you want to seriously game, more stable graphics processor and most of the developers use it to make the games. AMD isn't bad for a budget but thye have more problems in the long run.
