Ubisoft is set to invade Tony Hawk's video game turf on October 24 with the release of Shaun White Skateboarding. Activision will be returning the favor in kind, as the publisher confirmed for GameSpot that it will be releasing Tony Hawk: Shred, which includes snowboarding as well as skating, in North America on October 26.

Ride gave Tony Hawk fans a new way to play, but Shred will give them a new sport to play.

Shred is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by Robomodo and for the Wii by Buzz Monkey. Those are the same combinations of studios and platforms from last year's Tony Hawk: Ride, the first title in the series to rely on a motion-sensing skateboard peripheral.

While Ride fared poorly with critics for its dependence on a new balance board peripheral, both Hawk and Robomodo have faith in the add-on's technology. The skater was quick to say that the original game "only just really tapped what's possible" with the board peripheral, while the Chicago-based developer ramped up payroll 20 percent in the months following Ride's release.
