Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero dev building Call of Duty

Updated Neversoft website reveals Woodland Hills, California, studio now assisting on Activision's behemoth shooter series.

Activision has tapped yet another studio to work on the Call of Duty series. According to Neversoft's newly updated website, the Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero studio has joined Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Raven Software, and Sledgehammer Games in working on the series.

Neversoft is now working on Call of Duty.

"We have molded our team into a crack squad of eager developers ready to push the first-person action genre in support of Activision's Call of Duty franchise," reads Neversoft's new splash page.

The website points to its career page, where eight positions at the Woodland Hills, California, developer are presently available. Further information was not provided, and as of press time, Activision had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Two years ago this month, job listings at Neversoft indicated the shop was working on an action shooter, but no information on the project has yet come to light. Neversoft's last release was 2010's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, the final entry in the rhythm franchise to see release before Activision put the series on hiatus.

Prior to building Guitar Hero games (the studio put out seven such titles between 2007 and 2010), Neversoft created and developed the critically acclaimed Tony Hawk skateboarding series, beginning with 1999's original Pro Skater and running up to 2007's Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. The studio does have prior experience with shooters having developed the Xbox 360 launch title Gun.

The latest Call of Duty title is Black Ops II, which is due out on November 13. The game is a sequel to the best-selling Call of Duty to date and is in development at Treyarch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

you want to make CoD good give it a break

CoD needs to go out with a bang... announce 6 games for 2013, make each one have a 1 hour campaign and be $60 each. Just see how many will buy them all.

In terms of game franchises, Call of Duty has the highest percentage of morons. This would be another Guitar Hero-like failure of a series, if not for that.

You'll be able to kill people by playing a riff from "Purple Haze"

Is anyone else tired of seeing Treyarch fail?, i know i am, how about bringing in something fresh, something new, something the FPS fans have never seen before, but please don't let Treyarch make it!

Makes sense really when you think about it.

Tony Hawks became a rinse and repeat type of a game.. then failed.

Guitar Hero became a rinse and repeat type of a game.. then failed.

Call of Duty became a....

Well.

We all know how it's going to end anyway..  Eventually...

Not that I don't love Beenox, but how about putting Neversoft to work on Spider-Man games again? I'm sure they'd turn out better if Beenox didn't have to make one every year, let it alternate with Neversoft.

why not take cod into a quake arena game but you buy map packs every 6 months or so?  thats where its headed anyways.

Leave it to the already established milkers to milk... nice

Brilliant idea!!!  All 3 of these series are getting kind of bland...  Why not mix them all together in one game!  Just think about it, skating around in Iraq shooting people in the face and then playing an awesome guitar solo as a bomb!!!  It would be amazing!!

This sounds horrendous.

Is it wrong that I immediately thought of CoD on skateboards?

But that's silly....fish don't skateboard...

Activision.....

Fall off a cliff and die.....

Or burn.....

Neversoft used to make good games then they did a guitar game that caught on like mad and they forgot how to make good games so now they help make war profiteer shooters......How the mighty have fallen.....

Yo dawg I herd you like unoriginal and repetitive content, so we put a maker of repetitive annual releases in your repetitive annual series

Oh man you're going to milk COD just like you did with all of the music games.

well i can't for black ops like it better then modern warfare series but this is interesting but this is not really a strong point i am worried that to much inexperience will lead to glitches and bugs and horrible gameplay to many people for games

What happens if the COD fad stops?  Having 25 000 employees working on COD won't do crap for the company if that happens.

Shantmaster_K

Well the Neversoft should fit right in. They released 7 games in 3 years. CoD is every year.

How many teams do they need working on CoD?

So instead of Neversoft making a sequel to GUN they get to work on COD instead. Activision is such a boring company.

More money for Neversoft if people keep buying cod games every year the way they do now...

If black ops 2 sells more then the last cod game i'm literally going to lose all faith in the average gamer.

Not really a fan of NeverSoft, I just hope their involvement with CoD doesn't bring the quality of the series down. Especially if they're working on the Vita version.

So Activision is putting all it's eggs in the COD basket

So now we are going to see a Call of Duty every 6 months.

Is it me, or is Activision trying to throw as many studios as possible at CoD, trying to make it seem ''new'' again?

Im pretty sure this is for either the Call of Duty Vita, and or Wiii U. I mean they know what happened to Guitar Hero, and they dont want to go that route again with their best IP. As long as if it's fun then I dont care though.

@MrBlutzIII Treyarch has done fine by me, they made my favorite CoD with Black Ops and there is a chance Black Ops 2 will do something interesting.

@nurnberg kotick co will claim they were all in cahoots to leave the company by contacting EA and rescind payments past due to their employees... done and done.  say goodbye to any bonus too...

@Shantmaster_K For Neversoft's Guitar Hero run, I count six games in five years -- GH5 and GH Metallica shared a year, and that was the single exception. Where do you get 7 in 3?

xcollector

@Sepewrath Maybe they'll start releasing the games quarterly like they did with Guitar Hero.

shenron43

@Vickman178 It most likely will. A lot of people liked the original black ops, so it has the potential to happen. Modern Warfare 3 was the worst edition in the series yet though...

Sepewrath

@berzerk0912 No, they're probably all working on the same game. And you will never see more than one CoD a year, Activision needs that time to sell map packs and collect on Elite.

supermoc10

@zerooo0 My vote goes to CoD for Vita since  Treyarch could simply port the 360 version to Wii U like they do for the PS3 version.

@da_post_office black ops was not even close to a good cod to me the only treyarch cod I ever thought was good was world at war, but now its just terrible to me
